Ski Tunica

I thought it would be a good idea to put a discussion thread on the Myriad project in the Memphis forum as well as Mississippi. All the threads made previously were moved when the Mississippi board was made. The majority of this resort won't be casinos and the first major family friendly entertainment development in Tunica. $2.9 Billion dollars and groundbreaking in July. Along with the indoor ski resort, there will be a 5 acre waterpark, 18 hole domed golf course, and a world class botanical garden. Myriad Botanical Resort webpage

Here is the latest news on the project...

IMO this project can double or maybe even triple the number of tourists who visit Tuinca. And thats not taking into account all the developments which this project may generate. I hope we get some outside feelings on this project. Would people from the midwest and northeast escape the harsh winter months to come down and play golf?

Sure they would. I can tell you that in Minnesota right now it's sunny and in the 40's and tons of people are out playing golf. In fact, they'd play on outdoor courses in Memphis in January.

Some folks up here even play golf in the snow with a red-colored ball.

Wow this is going to be BIG! and Its going to impact the area a lot. The only thing I want to know is how they are going to make a snow park! The Midsouth can reach temps of 100 plus in the summer. Well however there going to manage that I don't know, but they will get a lot of business from people around here that want to see snow. :D

It will be like Ski Dubai. Dubai really hot and in middle of the desert so the ski resort is indoors! I think it'll attract people from the Gulf Coast to come up here for a change and maybe we CAN even get the Winter Olympics now :P Only year round ski resort in the Southeast I know of. Here's a link to the Ski Dubai discussion thread in the Dubai Forum...

Now all we need are those mega developments! :) Stay tuned...

Do you all think Desoto will be spared from becoming rundown like most sprawl? The western end of Desoto is still mostly undeveloped but Riverbend and that development going up at Circle G might change that. I think its safe to say Tunica is planning to develop pretty densely because its planning a monorail so maybe Desoto will be "healthy sprawl" being between two urban centers?

I'd like it to connect the Airport Intermodal Terminal-Graceland-Southland Mall-DCC area-Riverbend-Tunica

I think that monorail idea is great if it actually gets off the ground and is done right.

I know Memphis' LRT has been put on the backburner because of budget difficulties, but if the casinos push the monorail idea--and probably chip in some money--the monorail may actually pan out. And there's no doubt that casinos probably have the biggest clout of anything in the state.

It's good to see the casinos taking almost a proactive approach to sprawl in North Mississippi. Also, it shows a recognition that a regional approach to development is the best.

As far as DeSoto becoming rundown--I hate to say it, but I think that depends on white flight. I would suspect that middle-class black Memphians will begin to move there for the same reasons that whites did--good schools, low crime. If whites in places like Southaven all decide to flee and dump their homes on the market at the same time, yes, I think Southave will become rundown with rentals and section 8. If white people decide to stay and live with their black neighbors, I think it would be fine.
