A couple develop-bits in Short Pump via DowntownShortPump.com:

Virginia Eye Institute Breaks Ground on Eye Care Center in Towne Center West

The Corner at Short Pump Shopping Center Purchased, New Owner Announces Second Phase Businesses

The Rebkee Company recently purchased The Corner at Short Pump from The Archon Group for an undisclosed amount. The 41-acre site is anchored by a newly-built Kroger grocery store, which is currently the only tenant of the development. As part of the second phase, Hargett said, Rebkee will develop 125,000 square feet of retail space. Several tenants are in line to take up 85,000 square feet. Those retailers include Olive Garden, Bassett Furniture, Select Comfort and a combined Toys “R” Us/Babies “R” Us. Cushman & Wakefield {sodEmoji.|} Thalhimer is handling leasing for the development.

Now Leasing the Fountain Shops at Short Pump Town Center

Saw the sign for this at the entrance to the mall a while back and thought I'd do some digging. Turns out a small (13,500 SF) free-standing retail center is planned on the western side of the main entrance to Short Pump Town Center. No construction yet--I believe they are still trying to lease a tenant(s?).

Checking in constantly with West Broad Village and the Jon 'Ric Spa..... are they actually planning on opening it anytime soon? What's going on over there?

Also if I have the time, I'll try and head over to WBV and snap some shots of the ACAC construction :good:

Nice to finally get on this forum anyway..... it turns out all this time the confirmation e-mail was in my spam folder :ermm: .....

A couple develop-bits from the Short Pump area:

The former Blockbuster store in Short Pump Crossing at Pump and Broad is becoming an Advanced Auto Parts.

The Olive Garden at the Corner at Short Pump should be opening by the end of the month.

The Hotel Sierra in Short Pump Town Center Mall is now officially a Hyatt House.

Not only in Short Pump but in the entire Richmond area, Ben Franklin stores will become A.C. Moore stores.

Read on the RTD this morning that there is gonna be a 420 Unit Apartment complex at Bacova Drive and North Gayton Road done by the Breeden company which developed the town center west development. Its hard to believe that the final parts of short pump are being built out. Its on the bizz buzz section of the RTD done by Lou Louvio.

It hasn't been built yet and already it looks dated--a very underwhelming design. Considering Towne Center West isn't fully leased, let alone fully built out I guess it's better that the Breeden Company is sticking to just apartments this time around.

Will the new Gayton Rd./West Broad St. intersection be the future home to an LEED-friendly office park? The SHORT PUMP PROFESSIONAL CENTER is hoped to be up for lease by Richmond-based leading lease offices Thalhimer. They hope to have at least ONE 100,000 square foot office building up by the second quarter of 2014.

Looks like some local homeowners are drumming up opposition to Lingerfelt's proposed development to include 378 rental units and a medical office and retail segment on over 50 acres in Short Pump.

The main point of contention seems to be that the properties are rental and not owner-occupied.

http://www2.timesdispatch.com/news/local-news/2012/jun/28/tdmet03-short-pump-rental-project-draws-scorn-from-ar-2018968/

It's unfortunate that this issue (of all issues) is the one that the residents are most up-in-arms about.

One speaker intimated that the concern was over lower-income residents who may move into the neighborhood. ''If the economy tanks, you're going to lower your rent,''

Those neighbors seem to have forgotten that the Short Pump economic engine is largely fueled by the labor of relatively-low-paid hourly retail workers. Short Pump would probably not exist (in it's current form) were it not for the thousands of workers who commute in everyday to provide these services. I guess these workers are good enough to serve the residents at The Cheesecake Factory or bag the residents' groceries at Whole Foods but heaven forbid they actually want to live in the community.

Thanks for your eloquent assessment of the situation. I totally agree.

Wow, this is old. Time for a revival.

Short Pump Town Center, the centerpiece of the namesake shopping mecca district, is about to get a huge expansion. And then some.

Using the new social site Popularise, a Forest City representative opened up two boards. Now, if you're not familiar with the site, basically some cities round up some shopping centers or spaces and gather community ideas of how to make it better, and hopefully transfer those ideas from the web into real life. And SPTC is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year ( :fun: ), so Forest City decided to celebrate: in the form of expansion.

Anyway, the two boards are here: https://popularise.com/cities/23 The boards are titled "What retailers or restaurants do you want at Short Pump Town Center?" and "What amenities do you want at Short Pump Town Center?" Thus, you can guess the types of things you'd see.

And the concept is really neat. It was started around a month ago for Short Pump, and now they've gotten quite a number of responses.

Some of the public's ideas ranged from a rooftop restaurant/bar to IKEA. And IKEA also got the most votes as well.

Today, Richmond.com reported that ForestCity had decided to choose 4 malls for "renovation and/or expansion". SPTC was one of those 4.

So here's the richmond.com article: http://www.richmond.com/business/article_1f77ba0a-cd1b-11e2-adb0-001a4bcf6878.html

A 138-room Home2 Suites by Hilton in Towne Centre West near the new VCU Medical Center office building and existing full-service Hilton, and

A 122-room Hampton Inn and Suites ''just west of the GreenGate develpment.....and at the intersection across from the entrance to the Cabela's anchored West Broad Marketplace shopping center.''
