Under that rubble you will find my heart.  Never again can I go there to reminisce about the countless wonderful times I had there.  To many of us who lived there that was sacred ground.  My home for five years is now lost to the ages, and there is little to left to remind me of what once was.

I read the release and it does not say if it is total students or FTE (full time equivalent) which is fewer than total students.

^ Old rendering, but definitely gives you a good idea of what expansion could look like.  I suspect we go between the 33-35k range.   Need to align ourselves with a potential conference realignment and 35k +- a few thousand, seems to be a nice median for capacity.

In the first screenshot is where the new in campus hotel is being built. In the 2nd screenshot though there is a large construction project going on between Snyder Road and the football practice field. I have tried finding out what is was on my own but cant find it for the life of me. Does anyone have any ideas on what it is?

This was puzzling me too for a while. Nothing is being built there. I learned that they are only using that area to break up rocks that were excavated from the hotel site. (Why or for what purpose I have no idea.) This required knocking down a bunch of trees unfortunately.

I’m always surprised by how much younger UNCC is compared to other public universities in North Carolina. Is there a reason why Charlotte got their university late?

Historically, North Carolina's legislature was dominated by the counties of the Atlantic coastal plain, many with fewer than 5,000 residents.  Prior to the Supreme Court's 1964 ruling in  Reynonds v. Sims (377 U.S. 533),  Mecklenburg County had no more votes or influence in N.C.'s legislature than numerous so-called "rotten boroughs" (counties with very small pops.) in eastern North Carolina.   Mecklenburg County was woefully underrepresented in the N.C. State legislature prior to the Reynolds decision  which held that state legislative districts must be roughly equal in population.   As late as 1964, Mecklenburg County, which had more than 300,000 residents at that time, effectively had no more voting power or representation in the NC State legislature than little Tyrrell County (located along Albemarle Sound) which had less than 4,500 residents.  In fact, since the late 19th century Charlotte & Mecklenburg County had been pleading with the N.C. State legislature to site a public university in Charlotte, but didn't have the political heft to attain that goal prior to state legislative redistricting  that was mandated pursuant to the Reynolds decision.  Charlotte College, founded in 1946 to serve WW2 Vets, did not formally become a part of the UNC system until 1965 following Reynolds.

The City had tried a number of times to have a university, as early as colonial times, but the schools lost money and would close. The first real attempt at a university by the state was in 1887 when the City was awarded the proposed A&M school, but a last minute donation by a wealthy benefactor in Raleigh put the university, now known as NC State, in Raleigh. Queens University, Davidson, and Johnson C. Smith are all older (Davidson being founded in 1837, Queens in 1857, and JCSU in 1867), but they were so small in those days, and funded by religious organizations. 

Without the baby boom of WWII, UNC Charlotte may not even exist. The fact that the school has accomplished so much in less than 70 years is astounding.

No it goes back to 1778 when little village of Charlotte proposed Liberty Hall a college on the site of Wells Fargo Plaza now.  the state did not fund it then due to the war (of American Independence)
