The Holbrook at Buncombe Street

A high-end senior living development that will include a full spa, indoor saltwater pool, multiple dining venues, sports bar, and wine bar is being proposed for the corner of Buncombe Street and Butler Avenue. The developer from Alpharetta, Ga., Solomon Development Services, specializes in senior living developments with memory care, assisted living, and independent living. They are applying for a zoning change that would allow for more than the 20 independent residences the current zoning allows. The proposed contiguous building will scale from three and a half to six stories along Buncombe.

The panel suggested a potential change in design — from English manor style to something more in line with the urban environment — while taking into consideration the architecture of the neighboring Hampton-Pinckney Historic District.

Planning Commission signs on on this property now.

I like how the roof line isn’t flat all the way across. Reminds of the architecture within Biltmore Village in Asheville.

This looks the same as it did in June.  I guess it was on pause but is back now.

It looks like they eliminated the dead end on the new road and continued it out to Keat Ave.

I think they are changing the RDV zoning to residential to prevent any new commercial from going there

Not sure what the point of this extension is but the city owns the property adjacent so maybe something is about to happen here.

Connecting Fludd to Pete Hollis would be good for connectivity. They could reconnect a lot of roads that SCDOT butchered...

This is the former Cline site, correct? Is this and the other one on Pete Hollis within the city limits?

The city owns most of the land North of Mulberry and is extending Fludd street to Pete Hollis.  A private owner owns the rest of the north parcel and the parcel between Mulberry and the Kash and Karry.

Old Green Plaza site. City issued a CFP for a grocery store there years ago. Never got any interest.

I noticed there is a GONE sign on the other Cline building at Buncombe and Atwood st.  This is on the corner across from the History Museum.  There is also some work going on on the Old Gene's restaurant building.  There was a demo dumpster parked next to it.  Big changes coming to this intersection.  The Senior Housing project is going to make a huge difference.  Glad to see development happening at this gateway into downtown.
