Greater Greenville Economic Developments

Excellent, short article from USA Today on the strength of Greenville's housing market. The article has graphs and numbers, showing while both state and national home sales have been sliding, Greenville has remained relatively stable. Good article and good press for the Greenville area.

Elliott Davis is acquiring two Charleston firms. Hopefully this might lead to a need for more office space for them locally.

Elliott Davis to merge with two Charleston firms.

The article seems to suggest that Elliott Davis purchased these firms to extend their brand to Charleston. I would assume that those jobs will stay there (since that is the point of the acquisitions) and have little to no impact on Elliott Davis's jobs in Greenville.

Agreed, but the bigger the company becomes, the bigger the HQ functions will get.

Greenville based SATS Air has inked a deal with the state of Florida to provide on demand air service for Florida state officials and employees. SATS Air has also now passed the 5 million passenger miles mark. An excellent milestone, considering air taxi planes only seat 6 to 10 people. Congrats to SATS.

More great news for Fluor!

The U.S. Department of Energy announced Thursday it has selected Savannah River Nuclear Solutions LLC, a team led by a Greenville-based division of Fluor Corp., to take over the management and operation of the 310-square-mile Savannah River Site, with the transition beginning Jan. 24.

The five-year contract, worth $4 billion, can be renewed for up to five additional years.

Forbes 2008 Best Cities for Jobs is out, and Greenville ranked number 37 in the nation. When you look at a couple of the metrics used to achieve the ranking it gets even better. On the growth side, Greenville ranked number 12 in the nation for income growth and number 22 in the nation for job growth.:thumbsup:
