Just one more bit of economic info that is sure to bring a smile to your face. Forbes just released a report of the best cities to live in to weather the current national economic downturn. (they based this report on job growth, cost of living, etc) Greenville is one of the top 5 in the nation.:thumbsup: The other 4 are Denver, Huntsville, Cincinnati and Little Rock.

More good news for the area. The yearly list of the 25 fastest growing SC companies is out. Greenville and the Upstate dominated the list with 5 of the top 10 and taking 15 of the top 25 spots.:thumbsup:

Article from The State:

Great news, indeed! There should be no doubt that the Greenville-Spartanburg metro area is the state's economic engine. :)

Thanks for keeping us up-to-date on all of these economic developments gsupstate (and everyone else too). Its great to see these types of developments given the general state of the state's and the nation's economy. Greenville and the Upstate continue to buck the national trends, and I hope that SC's statistics will reflect positively on this in the future.

EZ-Glide, the awesome synthetic ice product invented and manufactured by a Greenville company, continues to gain fantastic reviews, as this article indicates.

A company in the foothills of the Appalachian mountains is making some Canadian cities consider replacing one of the iconic symbols of northern winters, the frozen pond, with a year-round synthetic ice rink.

...

The company sells its product to Cirque du Soleil and Disney on Ice and Mr. Durham said half his business comes from individuals for backyard or basement rinks. He said he's had record sales for the past eight years but won't divulge any numbers.

I assume this is the company that was just brought to Clemson last week. An ice rink was set up in the amphitheater. The synthetic ice is actually very close to the real experience. I highly suggest checking out a rink somewhere if you get the chance. It'd be nice to have something like this set up downtown, especially since it'd be showcasing a local company...

According to an article from GSA Business, Greenville County saw more than 20 announcements representing more than 1,500 jobs and $180 million in investments this year. In the fourth quarter alone, there were eight announcements totaling more than $67 million in investments and 600 jobs. That is a new record apparently in terms of job growth over a one year period. Great news. :)

According to the current edition of Greenville Journal, rumor on the street indicates that 3M may be planning yet another expansion at the South Carolina Technology & Aviation Center. They are just finishing a $100 million expansion announced approximately two years ago.

Awesome news! I love hearing about the steady, almost rampant economic growth in the Upstate despite the current negative national and international business climate elsewhere.

Good news for the Greenville economy. GE Energy just received the largest order in its history.....3 Billion for 56 turbines for Iraq. The turbines will be made over the next few years in both Greenville and in France. Good stuff.

That news is about as good as it gets! :) More good job announcements in Greenville are sure to follow.

We could be hearing another announcement about new jobs from a German-based company, according to this article from Buffalo, New York. Henkel, Corp. manufactures several name-brand cleaning and cosmetic products used across the globe. While they may not add many jobs here in Greenville, it will be nice to have additional openings during this economic downturn.

According to the summary, Henkel will try to sell the plant
