http://www.crda.org/economicscorecard/CRDA_Economic_Scorecard_2012.pdf

Charleston did an economic scorecard which included Greenville as a peer comparison.

Interesting to see where Greenville falls out ahead....in the middle of the pack......and on bottom. The most interesting thing I see in this, is that Jacksonville and Savannah are at the bottom or close to it, of almost every metric. Doesn't shock me about Jacksonvillle.....I go there on business.....have never been impressed. Savannah though, on the bottom of so much.....sort of shocking.

Lockheed just a major contract with the Coast Guard. Affects both SC sites including Gville.

Two South Carolina communities will be sites for work on $244 million of defense contracts that the Pentagon announced Friday.

Lockheed Martin Corp.’s site in Greenville will share in a $218 million contract to modify Coast Guard HC-130J Hercules aircraft.

The second contract for more than $26 million involves the construction of an aviation fuel storage and distribution facility at Joint Base Charleston.

Lockheed Martin’s Greenville site, which provides full service maintenance, repair and overhaul services, will work on the Coast Guard aircraft. The Pentagon said work also will be performed at Lockheed Martin’s facilities in Marietta, Ga.

The Hercules, powered by four turboprop engines, is used by the Coast Guard for search-and-rescue and maritime reconnaissance missions. It carries a crew of five to seven, depending on the scope of the mission.

From GSA Business:

South Carolina traditionally has struggled to garner as much venture capital as densely urban, high-tech areas, such as Austin, Boston, New York City or Silicon Valley.

But one Silicon Valley investor has taken notice of Greenville, and a few Palmetto State startups have attracted capital recently.

Since 2002, venture capital firms have invested in 34 S.C. companies, totaling $364 million, according to statistics compiled by the National Venture Capital Association and PricewaterHouseCoopers.

Nationally, firms put together roughly 37,000 deals for $264 billion during the same period.

The 'Fiscal Cliff' situation could impact the announcement, but if that doesn't derail it, we should hear something by year-end. My guess is they are going to expand the Greenville plant.

Not sure if this is the 'big' announcement or something else:

Michelin North America will announce a new international community partnership for the Upstate today.

The partnership will involve the International Center of the Upstate and Clemson University, according to an announcement from Michelin.

Lauren Davis, a Michelin spokesperson, said the new partnership is driven by the desire to bring out the international qualities and culture here.

“A lot of groups participate in contributing to that culture so this effort will be one to unite it all together,” she said.

The announcement will be at 10:30 a.m. at Michelin headquarters on One Parkway South.
