There are probably other reasons for the selection but is Verdae space cheaper per square foot?

Given that this is a big fish for Verdae, it wouldn't surprise me if they sold for a good price (from the buyer's perspective).  Also for the employees that will commute from Sburg, it is a quicker trip than DT.

The Upstate region (Greenville and Spartanburg), especially, has been the clear economic winner over the past year.

The cities had the greatest gains in retail trade (up 6.2 percent in Greenville, 5.6 percent in Spartanburg), and they were the biggest beneficiaries of a statewide building boom. From October 2014 to 2015, Spartanburg’s residential building permit activity was up 39.4 percent; Greenville’s was up 37.5 percent
