Lake Norman, NC

In their early stages of development was there ever any thought given to merging Huntersville, Mooresville,Corneilius, and Davidson into one town? All these communities should be commended for being suburbs that are in favor of responsible growth but the planning could have been even better if the area had been consolidated. Not to mention the tax base and the schools, which probably would have prompted a secession drive from CMS and Mecklenburg.

Why would they merge? There doesn't seem to be any benefit to doing that, and it would diminish their distinct identity.

About 10 years ago, there was a proposal for Cornelius to change its name to Norman, NC. The idea was not well received by the locals and it died off.

More recently there have been calls for Cornelius, Huntersville and Davidson to seceed from Mecklenburg and form it's own county. Mooresville would be invited to leave Iredell to join up in the new county. The proposal's favorite name for the new county would be "Lake Norman". I believe the cities and towns would remain independent.

Such a proposal would be politically difficult to pull off. However it if were put to a vote of the local residents, I predict it would probably pass.

Haha I always thought about what it would be like if we formed our own county. Definetly could see it passing with how much the lake norman towns feel left out in both county matters.

Indeed. We would have lower taxes, better schools, less politics, and our money would stay in the area, and better representation in the NC Legislature.
