New Shopping Center coming to Carrboro

CARRBORO -- The town could soon have a new shopping center -- anchored by Carrboro's second Harris Teeter supermarket.

The Calvin Mellott property at 405 Jones Ferry Road -- across the street from the OWASA headquarters -- is currently home to Mellott Contractors and Supply. But town records indicate it could soon be used for other purposes.

The town planning board last October conducted a courtesy review for The Shoppes at Jones Ferry, a shopping complex that would be anchored by a new Harris Teeter.

Although no plans have been submitted yet to the town for the redevelopment, groups representing the grocery chain have participated at several town meetings, including a joint review by the Transportation Advisory Board, Planning Board, Appearance Commission and Environmental Advisory Board....

And here is a map of the area grocery store chains in the Carrboro/Chapel Hill area:

Korger doesn't seem to have that many stores in the Triangle anymore. I mean they are still around of course but the area seems dominated by Harris Teeters and Food Lions with a few Krogers and Lowes Foods thrown in for variety :)

I guess that's like Charlotte.. in a way. North and south Meck are dominated by HT with Bi-Lo, Lowes and Food Lion thrown in for variety and in East and West it's the same but Food Lion is dominant.
