Shreveport-Bossier City Photo of the Day

What UrbanPlanet does to you...

But seriously, that's an awesome angle of the Shreveport skyline, thanks for posting!

Yeah, I've seen shots taken from inside Eldorado Casino, but never from Sam's Town. I believe the shot was taken from the 12th floor since the room number was 12## something. I'd like to see one taken from the 22nd or 23rd floor. The cool thing about the Sam's Town hotel is that it casts a red-ish reflection on the street below, making for a neat addition to photos taken in that area. The red-ish windows in that hotel were meant to represent roses, since Shreveport is home to the American Rose Center and the largest rose garden in the country.

Speaking of that, Christmas at Roseland is open now, and anyone who is going to be in the SBC region between now and Christmas time REALLY should check that out. It's located at the Gardens of the American Rose Center in Greenwood, just west of Shreveport.

I mentioned I'd get some photos if I could, so here they are from tonight. Sorry about the quality, I was trying to get back home to Haughton because it was getting late and I was getting tired of running around!

Here are the three shots I took that ended up the LEAST overexposed.

Just some storefronts...

The small but decorative water feature that will go in front of Starbucks...

What will eventually be Starbucks (left) and Ristorante Guiseppe (right...)

Shoppes at Bellemead at night, Youree Drive

Wow! Thanks for those great shots Brian - I always appreciate when you take the time to do that for the forum. The Uptown Shopping Ctr looks so much nicer - almost unrecognizable. I guess they're a little behind schedule, but the exterior arent' far from complete. The Shoppes at Bellemead is beautiful too - just as nice as anything that any other city has. I hope the retailers there are doing well.

Hey, man, it's a labor of love! :) I enjoy photographing and sharing, and I have no problem doing it. Sorry about the "Ghost Jaguar" in the photo, though. That was a 20-second exposure and that car just happened to pull into my shot in the last few seconds.

It IS a very nice center, and when I was talking with the security guy he said the center is doing very well. That time of night it had slowed down, but it's usually bustling during the day.

Like I said in the LA Photo of the Day thread, awesome photos, Brian!

And if you don't mind, I think I may have found myself a new desktop wallpaper in that first shot you posted. :D

Funny you should say that, Nate! (see below)

That's been my desktop since I first uploaded it tonight! :D

And again, my friend, many thanks for the kind words.

look high in the sky for something I thought was unusual! a red disc shaped object.

one of my favorite pictures that I took during Rockets over the red and also some more that I took..not bad for my first attempt at fireworks! enjoy! I was just amazed at how clear the Texas street bridge came out during the shots!

Yeah, the lighting from the fireworks were casting an awesome glow on the bridge. You captured that well. As I was taking my pictures I realized I was too close to the water's edge, and I can tell from your shot that you were probably further up near the fountains. That's a much better spot, and probably where I'll end up next year. We got down there around 7:30 so it was very hard to find a spot to set up. You got some really good pictures, man, I'm impressed!

That disc in the sky... !?!? No clue. You were using a somewhat long exposure to get these shots, so it's possible it was a plane going by and its red light made a "trail" across your shot for the duration of the exposure. Other than that, no explanation from me.

Edit: upon further inspection of the full-size image, there is NO WAY that's an airplane moving. It's clearly a disc shape. Hmmmm.... ?

Movie crews started to set up today in downtown Shreveport for Jessica Simpson's movie, Blonde Ambition, which will start filming tomorrow. This film will also star Rachael Leigh Cook, Andy Dick, Penelope Ann Miller, and Willie Nelson.

Yes, I love exploring some of the nicer buildings downtown. I do wish, however, that we had more historic buildings constructed using split-face Limestone blocks in the design like tons of other cities have.

My contribution for today...

I wish the city had build squares -- like they have in european cities. Jackson Square in New Orleans is an example of one, though I have't been there so i can't say if I'd like that one. I also wish we'd utilize traffic circles like Europe does -- they keep traffic moving when other cars are not present (when compared to 4 way stop signs).

Shreveport does have some interesting areas outside of downtown -- I really like the Kings Hwy area near I49. lots of interesting structures there. St Marks has a nice presence as does the WK mansion across the street. The areas near Centenary and South Highlands/Pierremont are cool too

I like the last picture of the river walkway. I didn't know they developed the riverfront to that extent.
