Shreveport-Bossier City Photo of the Day

Recommended Posts

Yea those are some great shots, Brian, nice job!

And I like the look of that building too, the design isn't exactly amazing, but I just like the overall look.

Oh sure, it's far from amazing. But then again, we don't really have any amazing buildings. I was just taking pictures of everything within a 4-block radius. And I meant everything.

Oh, and thanks to you as well, Richy!!

How many pictures do you normally take on a normal photo tour? I took around 900 pictures in New Orleans over a 7 hour time span, not including breakfast and lunch, and that didn't seem like that much really.

I took just under 200. There's obviously not as much to see here as there is in New Orleans.

Okay, Nate... here's my first-ever pano. It's not the greatest, but it'll work. If it comes out small, click it and you should be able to blow it up. It's actually a big file... 1.48 megs, to be exact.

I present to you, my Louisiana Boardwalk/Bossier City riverfront pano........................

Okay I finally saw the pano. I was just glancing and wondering where it was. Nice shot Brian. Yeah the seams did work out pretty good. About the only thing that stood out was the change in sky color in one of the seams. But I've noticed that seems to happen a lot with me if I ever take a long pano like that. Taking such a long pano you're more than likely going to have the position of the sun affect the lighting of at least one of your pics. I've wondered if things might work bnetter on a rather cloudy day. Anyway I should also say I do like the bigger pics Brian.

Thanks, man, I really appreciate that. As you can see, I had fun with my tripod today! :)

Yeah I really should use a tripod when I try doing my pano shots. But for some reason I never bother. But then again that's why not all my pano shots work out too great.

You know, I really thought I remembered it being cloudy when I took those, but looking at the photos, that wasn't the case. And I suppose that's why, after standing out in the open with my tripod for 20-30 minutes, I came back sweating like I'd just run a 5k!!

And thanks, man, I appreciate the compliments I've received on this. I hate the different lighting in the frames, and I do hope someday I'm able to find a way around that.

I didn't realize you were doing your panos without a tripod! Wow, I never would have guessed that! Whenever you're able to replace your tripod, you should try it. It was so easy to do, just set it up exactly where you want it, pick your starting point, and pan that thing as you take your photos. The handheld switch makes that all the more easy as well.

Part of the Redneck Riviera. For those who don't know, that's what they call the sandbars along the Red River through SBC where people camp out and have a hell of a time every weekend. The Shreveport Police have stepped up enforcement along their stretch of the sandbars due to the recent violent mutilation of a local model's face stemming from a fight on the sandbar, among other things. Beer bottles and other trash are always being left in the sand, used condoms found, and lots and lots of fights.

^Even with all of that, it still sounds like a pretty cool weekend. Cool pictures, Brian!

I've yet to go down there, but I'm working on it. I just have to get my wife to agree to it. My next-door neighbor is down there with his boat all the time.

It does sound like a lot of fun, despite the problems!

And thanks, Nate!

By the way, check out the people walking on water just to the bottom-right of the sandbar in the first picture.

does anyone have a shot of downtown Shreveport to include the Horsehoe Casino?

Hmmm... that's a hard angle to capture, because of the big gap between the Horseshoe and the downtown skyline. I've only seen a couple of shots like that ever, and one was taken from atop the VA Medical Center. I may have something similar if I go through all my stuff. I'll see what I have.

Some photos for today...

I took these pictures of the Shreveport Convention Center Hilton this afternoon. Sorry for some of these being so crooked... it didn't appear so bad when I checked the camera's display screen. My guess is that the hotel is nearing its topping out point. I'd be surprised to see any more floors added after this one, but who knows.
