Shreveport-Bossier City Photo of the Day

Hilton Shreveport in the wee hours of the morning yesterday...

I've never seen this hotel all lit up at night so I was glad I was able to venture out into downtown in the early morning hours to experience everything and see this as well. The early morning nightlife is something to see for sure, but a bit depressing when you see how many drunken young people stumble to their cars around 6am as the nightclubs close their doors for the "night."

Thanks to both of you! :) I saw a similar photo tonight online and I wanted to replicate it. I succeeded and personally I like mine better (I know I'm biased, but I really do like mine better.)

It had been a while since I'd taken a nighttime exposure on a tripod. This was actually the first time I've used this particular tripod and I've had it for months.

A few photos from last night's Rockets Over the Red along the Shreveport-Bossier riverfront. For those who've never been, fireworks are shot off from a barge in the middle of the Red River, as well as from the Texas Street Bridge which spans the two cities. The show can be seen from numerous points throughout the two cities' downtowns, but the best spots from which to view the fireworks are definitely Shreveport's Riverview Park and the Louisiana Boardwalk. The show is synchronized to the music of Trans-Siberian Orchestra, and along the Shreveport side of the river there are food and beer booths, as well as live music. The live music was cancelled due to cold rain and sleet that came down during this year's show. But despite the weather, Brian and his trusty camera and tripod were down there. An umbrella keeps the equipment as dry as possible until Brian can shell out $5,000 for a 1-series camera and a few thousand more dollars for some L lenses and not have to worry about the rain. ;)

Anyway... the photos:

And for the hell of it, let's revisit last year's Rockets Over the Red show, where the weather was much nicer: Click here to view!

Fantastic view, Paul. Finally someone else is getting in on the action in this thread. You really should do this more often, especially since you have an XTi.

That's from the University Club, it would appear. I still haven't taken my friend up on his offer to take me up on the roof of that building for some photos overlooking the city. I really need to do that, it's been well over a year now since he offered.

Either (1) you were mounted on a tripod for a long exposure, (2) you had a cross-screen filter on your lens, or (3) the windows up there gave a really cool long exposure/cross-screen type of effect to many of the city lights in your shot.

SHREVEPORT, La. - Fans from the Universities of Alabama and Colorado packed into the Louisiana Boardwalk along the Shreveport-Bossier City riverfront tonight to cheer on their teams at the annual PetroSun Independence Bowl Pep Rally. Loud cheers of "Go Buffs!" and "Roll Tide!" could be heard as representatives from both universities got the crowd into the spirit of the matchup. The 32nd annual PetroSun Independence Bowl will air live on ESPN tomorrow night, at 7:00 pm CST.

Awesome. I forgot about this parade ... not that it would have mattered, though, since I spent yesterday in Texarkana.

Here's a pic I stumbled across on the internet. A model of the Commercial National Bank building (that's what the site called it).

commercial-national-bank-fs.jpg

Oh wow man, thanks for posting that! It was called the Commercial National Bank tower when it was first constructed, and obviously has had many names since. Today it's.... ? I don't know honestly, because I never look lol. Regions maybe?

Just wanted to share this; eventhough not the best quality pic. Taken by my brother on his flight from DFW to BR a few months ago.

You can see the I-49/I-20 merging in the center with downtown SBC and the Riverfront/casino district. I-220 by-pass and Cross Lake (left)
