Shreveport-Bossier City Photo of the Day

Recommended Posts

That's actually the I-49/3132 interchange. But you tried.

You can see the LifeShare Blood Center in the upper-right corner at the Linwood Avenue exit. I get off I-49 there at 3132 every morning and get back on every evening.

Cool pic, man, and definitely a view I see often.

Haha, I just labeled my photos wrong. I have another picture like that from the I20-I-220 interchange, and I just reversed the interchanges on the photos. And now that I look at it, I guess I should've realized that as the the sign in the photo has a big "3132" on it.

Before I noticed the street signs, the big giveaway for me was that the I-20/I-220 interchange is in a very urban environment, all concrete and 8 lanes wide, lined with business and hotels. On the other hand, the I-49/I-220 interchange is in a very suburban environment, mostly houses and trees surround it.

Anyway, like I said, it's a view I see often so it's cool that you got a shot of it when you came through. Had you gone the other way on 3132, you would have come to the 3132/Bert Kouns intersection and seen the 3132 extension construction. Turning left onto Bert Kouns would have taken you through the Auto Mall and onto the Bert Kouns/Youree Drive corridor where most of southeast Shreveport's retail and restaurant industry is centered.

Yea, I thought it was a pretty cool shot too. I've always liked shots from on top of overpasses, I just wish it was possible to just pull over and just do a 360 degree pano of the area. Man that would be cool! Well, I guess it's possible, but it's not worth risking your life over.

Every single morning, when I get off I-49 onto 3132 and I'm atop the tallest flyover on the stack, I turn my head for a split second, just long enough to see the skyline way out in the distance. It's the coolest view, and I literally have to see it every time I go that way. I've often thought I'd love to pull my car off to the side and get a photo of that view, but since there is very little shoulder up there and everyone drives at least 60 on that curve, I figured I'd have to be out of my friggin mind to do something like that.

Oh, and hopefully tomorrow I'll have a cool photo to post to this thread. Yesterday, after I dropped my wife back off at her office downtown after lunch, I drove into the parking garage for the convention center and got some shots of the hotel construction. Luckily there was nothing going on at the center, so I didn't have to pay to park. I was able to drive up to the third floor and take some shots under the cover of the fourth floor, keeping the sun out. I think I got some really good shots, so when I get them uploaded I'll have to go over them and see which one I want to post tomorrow.

I'm looking forward to them, Brian! I haven't been able to see many photos and updates on the progress of the hotel.

Cool, I can't wait to get them uploaded and see what exact shots I got and the quality of them.

Anyway, the status of the construction, as of right now, is that it's 6 floors up and it appears that they're prepping for floor 7. Once the get floor 7 raised, they'll be halfway to the topping off point of 14 floors.

Good to know. When is the hotel expected to be completed?

What building is that with the American flag on top?

The building that looks like the flag is on top of it is the Federal Courthouse, but the flag is actually behind it atop the Chase Bank Tower, formerly Bank One Tower. It's odd how the Federal Courthouse building, from this angle, is hiding the Chase Bank Tower since it's taller than the courthouse and I took this picture from the third floor of a parking garage, so I was up pretty high myself.

Here's a photo of it from www.downtownshreveport.com:

Nice pic Brian. Parking decks are a pretty good place to get some nice pics. How many stories is that parking deck?

They certainly are. All during the construction of the Boardwalk, I used the Horseshoe Casino parking deck to take construction photos. I wish I had enough space online to upload all of those, because I literally have TONS of photos chronicling the construction progress of that facility.

Anyway, the parking deck at the Shreveport Convention Center is four floors and I was on the third floor when I took my photos. It was way too bright on the fourth floor. The Eldorado Casino parking deck is seven or eigth floors, so it's a great spot to take photos.

Thanks for sharing those pics Brian. SBC has a great system of loops ! I know I have said that ! That Federal Courthouse is really nice. And that Convention Center/Hotel looks to be a great anchor for northern downtown.

What would you say would be "THE" Intersection in Downtown Shreveport ? Louisiana @ Texas ?

Yeah I know what you mean about space. I was using flickr but then realized I didn't have as much space as I thought and that it was erasing all the older pics. I've been using image shack, so far I just keep uploading tons of pics and they're still taking them.

Actually, the intersection downtown, in terms of traffic counts and accidents, is Spring @ Lake, just off I-20. That intersection has always been Shreveport's worst for traffic and accidents, but for the last couple of years it's been number 2. The number 1 spot now goes to the Youree/Bert Kouns intersection in suburban south Shreveport.

I really like Shreveport's system of loops, but for a city of similar size, I think Little Rock has it beat by a long shot. They have three different loops throughout that city and they make getting around a breeze.

Anyway, thanks for the nice comments.

edit:

Hey, Richy, I just found this article related to the intersection I mentioned to you. How weird, I mentioned it earlier and just now when I went to the Shreveport Times site, I found this:

I had a free online service where I was saving all my new pics over my old pics not knowing it. That sucked.

I use PictureTrail right now, and there is a definite limit, so I might just have to use ImageShack. Everyone seems to use that site. They must have some killer servers and bandwidth to be able to host that many photos.

Thanks for the advice, man!

Check into www.Smugmug.com No limit on pics. It's not free.

Hmmm yet another one. I'll check on that if this Image Shack thing doesn't work out. I've registered at Image Shack now, so I'm going to see how it works.

Image Shack is good, but will lock up photos for the month after a certain bandwidth is used, then open again on the 2nd of the following month. This may work for you.

You might also check out Photobucket, so far no limits. No problems.

I hadn't noticed that. But maybe that's why I have a hard time uploading pics sometimes. From what I've seen from photobucket I'm not crazy about how they resize the pics so small. But I guess they all have advantages and disadvantages.

I signed up for Image Shack today, but every single of my photos will have to be resized just to be able to upload them. And since I have hundreds of photos, I know I won't be doing that. But if I do start taking slightly smaller photos from here on out, I could upload them directly to Image Shack. The only other negative I saw was that it seemed to take twice as long to upload to Image Shack than PictureTrail, and to be honest I already thought PictureTrail was pretty slow with that.

This hosting issue is a definite work in progress, but I appreciate all the opinions so far. Eventually I'll find the one hosting site that works for me, even if it costs a little each month.

................................................................................

..........

PS... I'll be signing off here in a little while, for the last time until Sunday night or Monday morning.

If anyone has Shreveport-Bossier photos they can share, even if they're found online, please do so while I'm gone just to keep the 'Picture of the Day' thing going.

Thanks, guys, you're all great.

Yeah guess I should have mentioned that. I think they have a Meg limit on each pic. Believe it or not I actually resize all the pics I post. And I've posted a lot of pics, just ask anyone over on the Arkansas forum.
