Shreveport-Bossier City Photo of the Day

Recommended Posts

There is no limit with Smugmug. You pay a once a year fee of $35.00. There is a monthly bandwith limit of 6Gigs. I have yet to reach that amount and I take tons of pics. They will not resize your pics either.

Thanks for the info. I might have to consider that. Resizing all the pics is a bit annoying. But my picture threads already push some people's internet because I tend to post so many pics. Having even larger pics might not help some people. That and I guess not everyone has the same resolutions settings either.

Well I actually have a pic to post here because it does have something to do with the area in a roundabout way. I took this pic of a trolley in Ft Smith here in Arkansas. The trolley was originally from Ft Smith but ended up in Bossier City. Now I don't know what it was being used for or if it was actually in service. But Ft Smith is getting their trolley system going again and has been going around buying back their old trolleys that were sold decades ago.

I signed up for Image Shack today, but every single of my photos will have to be resized just to be able to upload them. And since I have hundreds of photos, I know I won't be doing that. But if I do start taking slightly smaller photos from here on out, I could upload them directly to Image Shack. The only other negative I saw was that it seemed to take twice as long to upload to Image Shack than PictureTrail, and to be honest I already thought PictureTrail was pretty slow with that.

This hosting issue is a definite work in progress, but I appreciate all the opinions so far. Eventually I'll find the one hosting site that works for me, even if it costs a little each month.

Just to throw in another opinion.....

I use both ImageShack and Photobucket for hosting my photos. I've now started to resize most of my pictures before I post them. If you are interested in a quick, free, and easy program that you can use to resize any of the pictures saved to your computer, check out Microsoft Image Resizer. Once you have downloaded it, all you have to do it go to "my pictures," right click the photo you want, and click "resize image." You can then choose to resize it to one of four pre-sized settings, or your own custom size. Depending on what you choose, you can make a copy of the original image and the resized image, or you can just replace the original with the resized version. It's very fast and easy, and once you get the hang of it, you can resize a single image in 5 seconds or so. Then, you can upload the resized image, and it is uploaded faster on both ImageShack and PhotoBucket.

Hope that helps a bit! :)

Construction sign for future office tower

NCB - last time you were through here, you made mention of the office buildings along I-220 in Bossier. Most of those buildings house medical offices and one is actually a Willis-Knighton hospital building. Well, the hospital is expanding with yet another medical office building in that area, and here's the sign for it. The facade will be identical to the existing hospital and main medical office building on the property. It's amazing to see how fast Willis-Knighton is still growing and not surprising that it's the largest hospital chain in the state.

That's one thing I also remember about Shreveport/Bossier City was all the hospitals. Looks like another nice addition.

That's a nice Skyline pic with the addition new Convention Ctr. Hotel. How did you do that ? I like the angle that shows the hotel in the gap between the Casino's and the CBD.

Very cool, fridayinla! The skyline looks great!

Do you know if it's possible to do that with the GIMP program? I'd love to put the many condo towers coming to New Orleans into the skyline, especially Trump Tower.

Thanks NCB. I've never used GIMP, so I'm not sure how well it works. If you're looking for a really great and affordable photo editor, try Photoshop Elements. It's only about $40, but it's still packed with editing tools, and you get the Photoshop quality.

Thanks for the info. I'm gonna have to check out Photoshop Elements, it sounds like something I'd use very much.

Well, our IT guy told me about $40, but I'm finding now that some prices online may be a bit higher, but it's definitely worth it. Hope to see the future NO skyline soon!

Here's what Shreveport's skyline will look like once the convention center Hilton Hotel is completed later this year. The building may actually be slightly more to the right, but I think this is close. The perspective is accurate also.

Awesome job, man! :)

Too bad it's not a bit taller, eh?

But you did a great job putting that in there. That building is the first step in filling that gap between the CBD and riverfront skylines.

Photoshop. If I can get my hands on a rendering for the proposed Louisiana Boardwalk hotel tower, I'll try to do the Bossier side too.

Good luck with that. If you do get your hands on it, you will absolutely be my hero, man!! :D

I've never seen a single rendering of that proposed hotel, but I'd love to.

Riverfront Park at night, under the arbor, looking west.

I proposed to my wife in this very spot, over 4 years ago (obviously she said yes.)

This awesome photo belongs to Paul J. Whaley on Flickr.

Come on Brain, since this is a rather special place for you, you should have some pics yourself to post of this location. :D

You'd think huh? To be honest, though, I don't. I'm just not very fond of that spot. There are usually homeless people sleeping on the benches there anyway, and I've been chased off by homeless people enough.

I'm guessing they didn't run your wife off then. :D

Brain I keep forgetting to ask you this. I've noticed you posting a number of pics you've come across on flickr. Do you have an account there? I used my account there quite a bit for a while. I knew there was a monthly limit on pics but I guess I didn't pay attention to notice there was a total limit as well. I took quite a few pics on a trip a few weeks back and uploaded them all the flickr only then to finally notice it was kicking out all my older pics. Maybe I should pay for one of their more serious type of accounts. Anyway I know Nate has an account, just curious if you did too.

Wish I could help, but I don't have an account there. I just go there and search for specific keywords like "Shreveport" to find photos people have taken which might interest me. I spend a lot of time viewing the photos on there but haven't joined.
