I had no idea this was in the work, a walk of fame that is similar to the Hollywood walk of fame. This article was in the CP this morning. What do you think?

I think it'll be great. For a while I've thought the banner-clad "Music City Mile" was going to be cool, and this is just going to add another aesthetic to it and make it cooler.

I'm happy about this project in a continuing effort to enhance our branding. I'm also really glad this didn't happen in the 70s. This should be nice without the cheese. If anybody remembers the plaster-cast crap at Fountain Square, I'm sure you'll agree. That was horrible. This, I'm sure, will be appropriate and very nice.

I remember Dolly Parton mentioning when they were doing the plaster stuff at the Mistake by the Lake that she wanted to do something "different" and dunk her ample bosom deep into the concoction. She changed her mind because she worried small children might fall into it and hurt themselves.

Oh, I remember that well. She may have been right!

It will be interesting what they decide to do instead of a star for the walk. Could it be a guitar, or any number of musical instruments. What do you think guys they should use?

How about just a musical note? Keep it kind of universal to all kinds of music. The note could be inscribed with the person's name and maybe even a picture or a signature song title or something like that.

I agree. It should be a musical note or some other general symbol. It goes without saying that all genres of music will be represented in the 'music mile.' It will be interesting to watch the entire stretch of Demonbreun evolve.

I saw the design. It's an double-outlined square, with slightly rotated, stylized star in the center, with the honoree's name inside. The example at the press conference read "Johnny B. Goode", with "musician" below, and a silhouetted guitar at lower right. Small text at lower left reads Music City Walk of Fame.

Here is the full article from the Tennessean today. I think this will be a great project. Going to increase the foot traffic along Demonbreun for sure.

Definately. Making the stretch between Music Row and downtown a pedestrian destination is nothing but good, especially as pedestrian-friendly infill comes online along the route.

I hate the fact this is going to end at the porno statue; this is their first or last image of Nashville????

Other than that, great idea. I hope they clen up demonbreun past the GEC. I konw they are working on rebuilding the viaduct, so maybe this is all tied in.

Also, is it really that great of an idea to have this running over the top of the interstate? Talk about really taking away the quiet reflection on an artists accomplishments. VVRRROOOOMMMMMM!!!!!!!!!!!!

Actually some attempts had been made. The Walk of Stars inside the old Hall of Fame on Music Row was popular with the tourists. Then, at Fountain Square, there were casts of hand and footprints of sorts, but it came off a bit cheesy. Some of those still exist, I believe, in the Music Valley area. And then, at the Bicentennial Mall, in the Court of Stars at the carrillon, are etched tributes to many of the states music makers from Elvis to Roy Acuff. Some are quite surprising. This one will planned to be done with dignity and style. It'll make an interesting dialogue of the city's musical contributions all along the revamped Demonbreun.

Wow. I'm amazed that there are people who think there is something "pornographic" about naked human bodies. That's rather sad. I would suggest you avoid Europe at all costs..it's full of such "porno." For that matter, so is every art museum in the world. So stay away from those as well.

As for the walk, I think this is a GREAT idea--relatively inexpensive but very clever.

Well, that's kinda the definition of pornography. In any event, the problem with "Musica" is that many Nashvillians have wondered what nekkid ladies and nekkid men with huge johnsons have to do with the country music industry. Now, if we were the X-rated film capital of the world, the statue would make perfect sense.

I believe there's a HUGE difference between European classical art and the 21st century dancing orgy that's constructed at the edge of Music Row. Plus...some of us might just actually think nudity should be saved for the bedroom.

All that one has to do is turn on CMT and watch the videos these days to make that connection. Lots of nekkid women and "topless" men. Actually, the statue is probably too elegant and imaginative for the lewdness that gets pushed around the boardrooms in those Music Row buildings sometimes.

OK. Now that my tastes are known :)

My problem with the musica nudie statue is that there is a double standard. That's ok even though it offends many Nashvillians. If you put a cross on that land, the ACLU would file a lawsuit ina heartbeat.

My other big problem is this: Isn't that a publicly paid for statue on public land? If it's all private, that does change the dynamics somewhat, but again, still a double standard (If I go runnin' nekkiid in my own front yard, I'd be thrown in jail for indecent exposure!)

Europe has aenough problems that we won't worry about tackling their porno statue issue just yet; and FMJ, I never noticed the 'huge johnsons,' but hey, I guess its all relative :)

Sorry for the cheap shot FMJ

Yeah, I usually don't check out statues. But I can see and understand both sides of the argument here. I understand why some people are offended, and in a way, I am. I'm not a fan of nudity, especially in movies and such, but I think statues and art are different. I don't know why, I guess it's just because they're fake. But I don't understand why they're naked. They could be in the same position, and clothed, and it wouldn't make a difference. I also am annoyed that if it were a cross, people probably would cause an uproar, and demand that it be taken down. In this way, I'm interested to see if anyone disagrees with the Billy Graham statue. I hope not.

On the other hand, I can see where people are coming from when they say that it is art, and it happens all over Europe. You should know, though, that some of the paintings were finished during a time when they were considered pornography.

I'm sorry if this post is confusing. I think I may have confused myself.

Seriously, my father bought me a Nashville calendar and one month featured "Musica", and it was impossible not to notice the focal point of the photo being one dude's unit. If that had been up for another month, I'd have started developing an interest in Judy Garland records.

*cough*

So, uh, how 'bout them Titans ?

Any coincidence that one guy's is pointing straight down division and another's is pointing down demonbreun towards the Deja Vu? I think not :shok: !
