GR8scott 92 Report post Posted April 5, 2006 Anyone planning on seeing the movie Kalamazoo? it comes out Friday the 7th only at goodrich movie theaters which I think is Ada-Lowell 5, Grand Haven and some in kzoo/battle creek area. If it does well there, they will expand to other theaters and maybe even nationally. They filmed it 2 years ago and my friends band has a song in it or on the soundtrack. grandmabetty78 0 Report post Posted April 6, 2006 Was the director local? I think I almost auditioned for this one about 2 years ago....
dbrok 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2006 Had a chance to check out the movie yesterday, and have to say it was actually pretty good. It has a kind of more wholesome story that follows in the vein of films like My Big Fat Greek Wedding. There were some funny parts, although at times it was a little silly. All in all, still better than 90% of the garbage that makes its way to theaters. Mayim Bialik (Blossom) is in it, as is Michael Boatman who played Carter on Spin City. Virtually all the scenes were on location in Kzoo, in places like Bell's, the Civic Theatre and Sweetwaters Donut Mill. Not sure whether the director was local, but the two sisters who wrote and produced it went to Kalamazoo Central High School.
chieflenny 0 Report post Posted April 7, 2006 The director is David O'Malley and he's from Battle Creek. Part of the reason the movie was made, according to the writers (who are from Kalamazoo), was to get Hollywood to notice Michigan as a great place to make movies.
