East Tennessee Picture of the Day

Recommended Posts

15 minutes east of Cleveland

PICT1110.jpg

I beleive this shot is of Ocoee Lake taken from Chilhowee Mountain. Is that correct? It's an absolutely gorgeous area with hiking traiks, bike trails, scenic mountain views, and even a lake near the top of the mountain. And, yes, it's only about 15 minutes from Cleveland.

Here's my next Chattanooga pictures of the day. This past Friday, I sneaked into the Rennaisancw park ground which are still under construction. Here's a couple of pictures taken from the riverfront there in North Chattanooga towards the South shore.

Nice pictures of Chattanooga...

Yes, you are correct... The picture is taken from the lower pull off on the road up to Chilhowee campground... I was on my way home the other evening and decided to shot up the ridge and get a picture or two for the webside. It's very pretty up there, but the day I took the picture it was quite hazy. The views up at the higher pull off is even better, but again the haze was killin most of the shots. The lake is called arksville lake which is help back by Ocoee Dam #1. The drive up the mountain is very easy and the distance from the turn off at hwy 64 and the ranger station up to the first pull off is 3 miles... If you ever find yourlself headed up into the Ocoee area make sure and check out this unforgetable view... you feel like you are huge and everything else is just toy size from up there... awesome indeed

Thanks for the confirmation. It's one of my favorite areas in SE Tennessee. It's wonderful to live in a metropolitan area, and yet have such spectacular scenic areas at my doorstep!

Every weekend from May thru September, 17 weekends in all, Chattanooga hosts a event called "Nightfall". It is very well attended with about 5,000 people each week. Live music and a party atmosphere in the center of downtown. It has become especially attractive for the many bike owners in the area, as you can see from these pictures.

Yeah, a lot of the locals were devastated that it crashed. They were talking of refurbishing it, but I do not know....

When you return to the Tri-Cities, do you know where the next project will be? Seems as if there is a rumor that a Burger King will be built in southeast Bristol, at the Highway 394 (Bristol Beltway) and Highway 421 intersections.

It is supposed to be built in the lot to the left in this photo. I am sure some minor changes may have to take place at the intersection... probably not the traffic lights, but definitely the curbsides.

Well, that's a shame about the sign. We took great pains to save it.

I enjoy managing projects like this. It not only eliminates traffic bottlenecks, it addresses pedestrian needs also. I wish I could do more projects that addressed pedestrian and streetscape issues.

I get to travel around the State, as a result of what I do. I'm off to Jackson and Memphis next week and back to the tri-cities next month.

No problem. Hopefully all the ones I got the other day in Bristol turned out OK. I have not had a chance to resize the Dollywood photos, but will soon. We were supposed to go again today (Tuesday), but we will not be able to. We want to wait until next week and take grandpa and some other family members with us.

I have some of the Elizabethton Super cruise-in that I will try to post tomorrow evening. It was a huge turnout. Over 700 cars in the show in the downtown area and over 6,000 spectators arrived. The TV show host of "My Classic Car" was also there filming.

Great news! I look forward to seeing your pics. Please keep 'em coming!

Sorry I did not reply sooner.... with all of the posts, I missed your post. :D

Anyway, no, I did not get on that ride. I cannot stomach all of those. My cousins however get on anything there and have a grand time. That thing is called the "Timber Tower". Dolly announced on Sunday that she will be adding a new roller coaster in the park that will cost $17.5 MILLION to build. To be completed in 2007.

Good ol' Dollywood! Did you get to ride the new Tree topping thing?

I did not realize that either. I will have to post my Bristol photos over there. Thanks!

You guys should post some of your photos in the Southern Photo of the Day thread. Tennessee has absolutely zero representation on that thread.

I wasn't aware of that thread. We'll get some pictures posted over there.

Great Chattanooga photos!

As promised, here are some photos of the Elizabethton cruise. The host of "My Classic Car" was there that day. Instead of putting these on my photo albums, I will try to post them here by the site instead. If they turn out poorly, I will post them on photobucket and post in that fashion.

Most of these were taken in the evening hours, because in the morning and afternoon hours, there were so many people, you could not get photos. It was that crowded. Over 700 cars in the show and over 6,000 spectators arrived.

I found series of photos on RiverCity's website today. They document the revitalization of downtown Chattanooga. Many of the pictures I had never seen before. Here is a link to the PDF document it has 50 Pics.

Chattanooga's Downtown Renaissance

Wow! What a terrific document! It's a must see for anyone interested in the transformation of Chattanooga's waterfront. Thanks for finding it and posting. You've made my day!

Sorry I have not posted any "E. TN photos of the day", but I have not had a chance to get any. We just got back from Charlotte, NC and Lancaster, SC area over the weekend and did get several photos of those areas. I thought I would share this photo - sorry not Tennessee, but of North Carolina-Virginia. This photo was taken from the I-77 area (northbound) just before the North Carolina state line, looking southeast into the foothills of North Carolina. This photo was us going back up the mountain looking back down from the area of which we came. One of my most favorite views. At the bottom of the summit, the temperature was 83

PHofKS, Bristol is the official Birthplace of Country Music. :D

October, 1998 - The BCMA was instrumental in the passage of U.S. Congressional Resolution H.R. 214, which formally designated Bristol, TN/VA and the surrounding region as the "Birthplace of Country Music."

Thanks for posting that link..... I live here and I did not even know about this. :whistling::D

I just drove by that spot on my way home from work tonight, as I had to detour by there, as there was some sort of candlelight ceremony (later found out that it was a Hispanic service) at the corner of North 7th St. and State St. and I could not get through State St.

There is all sorts of Christmas activities going on downtown this week. I am going to try to get some Christmas photos of the downtown area within the next couple of days.
