Just thought I would share some pics I have taken around downtown. These are from Saturday the same day I did the U of M and Riverbank ones.

I am mad I cut the head off of one of the figures on this one.

This is my favorite one. I just love how the limbs frame the figure.

It is too bad the city doesn't use this as a skating rink during the winter anymore, look how successful Capus Martius is in Detroit.

My grandma and I finally deciphered what the sign said. It is the old "The Fair Store". My grandma quickly remebered the store after we figured it out, it was her favorite store downtown.

I hope they restore this side of the building when they eventually do something with it.

The fate of all the parking meters downtown. I think the message displayed in the right one is vert fitting.

When are they going to o something with this building. The Loft is in the alley side.

Nice pics! I'm know it's probably too much, but I had to reply to a lot of the photos and captions. Quoting seems to be messed up for me, too, so I put your comments in italics. <_<

Anyway....

It is too bad the city doesn't use this as a skating rink during the winter anymore, look how successful Capus Martius is in Detroit.

Yeah, it is. While I don't think the Pavillion will have as much of an effect on DT Flint as Campus Martius has with DT Detroit, I think it's still something that downtown could really use. It's something family-friendly that would be there nearly every day of the season rather than on specific dates like the various festivals downtown.

I like this one a lot.

Me too!

Ah. I knew it said "Fair", but I never knew the full name. What kind of store was it?

I hope they restore this side of the building when they eventually do something with it.

I'll be upset if they don't do anything with that side. That's my only worry about Uptown considering bringing a grocery store there. I'm pretty sure they'll do the right thing, though.

When are they going to o something with this building. The Loft is in the alley side.

There was mention of The Loft being extended to the Saginaw St side. Maybe something will happen that coincides with the Rowe building's opening? I'm hoping something happens with other storefronts on that block, too. Some of these buildings will look even worse sitting next to a sparkling new Rowe.

Looking down the gap.

I was looking through that gap the other day thinking about how big these buildings are even though the storefronts make some of them look so tiny.

It's CB for Citizens Bank. I assume you're talking about the weather ball. There are actually two Citizens Bank building down there, right next to each other. Maybe someone will share some pics of what I mean, I don't have any. :(

Great shot's. Good to see so much work being done down there.

And now.........

Kind of off topic here and I know I'm going to start a S&#@-storm with this. Looking at your pics, I noticed something about them. There is one Mazda or Toyota in all of those pics. The rest are all GM products. So here come the storm. What is it about Flint that makes people so friggin' loyal to GM. The company has all but abandoned Flint and yet everyone there continues to buy their crap. I can understand if you don't want to buy Japanese or even European, but for gods sake Flint, buy a Ford or a Chrysler. Quit giving these ass****s your money.

1970 GM Jobs in Flint/Genesee County, Michigan - 75,000 +

1970 GM Jobs in all of Mexico - 10,000 est.

2000 GM Jobs in Flint/Genesee County, Michigan - 33,000 (is that too generous?)

2000 GM Jobs in all of Mexico - A boat load, GM is now Mexico's largest employer.

So did all of my uncle's on my dad's side. Did being the operative word here. My Grandparents on both sides were lucky enough to retire from GM in the late 80's. Moms side from AC and Dads side from Buick City. But now their even getting screwed by the pension cuts.
