I would love to see Detroit save some of the awesome historic facade on the front of the Train Station (the similar entrance to most other city's penn/union station) and build a new large transit center station in like New Center where the current Amtrak station is. It could be a cab/bus/megabus depot and serve Amtrak, a new commuter rail, or new light rail/PeopleMover expansion....like building a new building surrounding that facade with maybe like a hotel/retail mall/residential

The newly renovated train station in downtown Fayetteville, NC. Back in the good ole days the train station was smack dab in the middle of the infamous Hay street stroll. There used to be massage parlors, lounges and bars all the way up the hill. This street was notorious for streetwalkers, pimps, juicy girls and places where you could get "happy endings" with your massage. Now all of that has been gone for well over 20 years. Being a military town Fayetteville has desparately been trying to shed that negative image and try to cash in on the new wave of downtown retail and condos. These are not the best shots of the station but I was a little jittery taking pics that day(The 82nd Airborne and special forces museum is right across the street from the station and I was harassed earlier that day).

Indianapolis famously known as the crossroads of America is home to the first unionstation(later replaced with this 1888 structure) constructed outside of the eastcoast. After the 1980's, trains stopped coming in, and the train station was shut down. A proposal in the late 80's to demolish the structure cuased major efforts to restore the structure into a shopping place. Succesfully the structure was restored and the shopping center flourished untill the circle centre mall a few blocks away opened, then busnise died down. After the shopping center shut down, they converted it into a luxury hotel, ball rooms, restruants, and office space. There has been talk of converting it into a light rail station.

Downtown Fort Worth has two stations. The first is the Texas & Pacific Terminal from 1931 on the south end of dowtown, a grand Art Deco structure that has been restored and reopened as lofts, with the lobby now serving as a train station again - this time for the Trinity Railway Express (and in the future, the Southwest-to-Northeast line):

Then, on the east side of downtown, is the Intermodal Transportation Center, built in 2002 and also a TRE/SW2NE stop:
