*** Back to the topping out part ***

Look at the camera today (4/17) about noon. They will be pouring the final lift of columns (front of the building). The pool will be the only thing left to pour after today.

The topping out party will be 4/27 from 11:00am until 1:00pm.

I would ask that bzorch and cdub to change their minds and decide to stay active members, as I feel they are both very good forumers who spur on debate and offer very compelling and interesting points of views.

There may well be an issue with to many long-winded debates finding their way into too many threads and getting them off topic, and thats something we as a forum must discuss and handle in an orderly and professional manner.

There are two solutions I will offer at this point. I can become more strict on keeping topics in-line and on topic (which will I'm sure lead to people thinking moderation is getting too tight), or everyone can stand back, take a deep breath, and think about how to each of use can do a better job of keeping our forum's threads on-topic. I'm as guilty as anyone as getting a side discussion going pertaining to the main topic, and I don't see anything wrong with that to a point. Its when we allow big long discussions to persist and keep a thread off topic indefinately or permentantly that issues arise. So I think it is important that all of us look at our posts and determine when we need to raise side topics, when to stop debating the side topic and start a new thread, continue the discussion in PM, let the issue drop, etc; and most importantly we all need to strive to make posts that direct the discussion back on main topic when necessary.

This forum runs best when we moderate ourselves and strive to keep discussion somewhat on topic.

Please feel free to PM me on this issue. Your feedback and input are very important in running the forum, so I encourage everyone who has issues, concerns, etc to contact me via the PM system.

Thanks.

So the next item on the Viridian is the pool, huh? I wonder if they might offer day passes for those of us not able to be residence? I just think it would be cool to swim 400 feet in the air!

As for my take on participants in the forum; I say the more opinions you can have expressed, the better. I didn't decide to stop posting when someone said they don't like people who live outside of Davidson County. What fun would it be if everyone here felt the same about everything?

The renderings [including Phil Ponder's piece] show the tip-top roof of the Viridian as being exactly even with the overhang on the L&C's observation deck. Obviously, it is quite taller than that, and views of the L&C neon sign on that side are forever obscured [at least partially] from the west. I guess I'll get over it, and maybe the drawings were presented that way to keep people from pointing it out beforehand. Either way, the Viridian adds an interesting element to the skyline.

Hey, Lexy,

I guess I'm at a bit of a loss here. I can see your point that leaving over a thread is over the top, but at the same time, I don't see why so many folks get upset when someone posts an opinion on a thread (even a rah-rah picture thread). If you aren't interested in opinions or longer posts, skip them. It's not like anyone makes you read every post. Like you said, it's just a stupid ass thread.

I don't mind opinions at all my friend. In reality, it's actually a better thing to have them mixed in a thread here and there.

Imagine the views looking almost straight downat the sunbathers, etc. at the 400 Ft high Viridian pool from the Signature Tower! LOL!

I'm sure many would agree with me in that I'm a little bit upset over the L & C sign being blocked by a bldg 6 inches away

It does seem to be a shame. Couldn't the Viridian at least be designed "around" that specific area, with any higher elevations placed to the left or right of the sign, so that the sign could still be visible? Wishful thinking I guess. But then again, the L&C, and most of the Viridian, will probably be totally blocked out from the west by the Signature. They will look like mid-rises next to that.

bwithers1

I am agreeing all over the place with you today :)

The Signature would/will make the view of the 'L & C' moot from the west.

I imagine the Southern Exposure for the pool/sun deck determined the location of the Penthouse.

As the new towers move westward down Church, the L&C would have been obscured anyway. I must admit that I don't remember how well the L&C could be seen before Viridian from Broadway. Did the Cumberland and/or Renaissance Hotel obscure it in anyway? I guess it was clearly visible from Church Street before Viridian.

I think the most "famous" view of the L&C has to be from the east side (across the river). That vista seems pretty safe for now.

I honestly don't see why it matters. Buildings get shadowed by buildings all the time in other cities. Why should the L&C be any different? Yes I know, it is a historical towre and all that.....but come on.

I care more about the streetlevel than what sign is obscured by what on a tower's crown. Maybe it's just me in this case.

The east view is the best though, and most famous.

I wonder how the folks in NYC felt about the twin towers "overshawdowing" the Empire State Buildings history? I think that's just part of growth and you learn to deal with it.

In fact, we sould be grateful that the haven't removed the "L&C" letters and replaced it with "Nashville: Home of the worlds largest adult bookstore."

Isn't that what the billbord on I-65 reads???

Sure...and stuff. I was just puzzled all a-flutter by the Empire State Building vs. World Trade Center / L & C Sign vs. World's Largest Adult Bookstore implied analogy. Just kind of blew my mind, and really wacked my heart out.

But perhaps you are right. The World Trade Center was virtually pornographic in its monstrous ugliness. I shed tears the day they fell, but not because of the buildings. They helped kill Lower Manhattan in much the same way that the World's Largest Adult Bookstore helped kill SoBro.

By the way...here's another obvious observation: sometimes progress is a step off a cliff, or closer to it.

Did anyone else find it funny/ironic that there was an off thread discussion about having off topic discussions? According to what you all said you should have started a new thread to talk about threads getting off topic.

And I just contributed as well. Welcome to real conversations! which quite often (in the non-email electric box world) ebb and flow, twist and turn. You start talking about Transit in Dresden and soon find yourself chatting about the elections in Iraq. Deal with it.

And I do think, to be on topic, that Viridian is a little too close to the L&C building. I can't imagine having a unit on that side would be pleasant. But then again I don't know the layout of the building.

BTW . . . can I swear on here?

Word! You right, you right. That whole swearing thing is weird. It seems like everytime I type in chickencrap, the word "chickencrap" comes out instead. So be it! The public realm needs standards, after all.

A friend of mine purchased a unit on the 13th floor, L&C side. I will see what his thoughts were about the lack of views. He probably got a great discount as he purchased the next to last unit.
