Thanks for the update! Yall always get the Wintry weather up there! It looked like a possible snowy day here Saturday with temps only in upper 30's....but nothing except tiny sleet pellets Friday night.

 

Hard to believe it was 5 years ago TODAY...Baton Rouge got a rare snow...3" inches reported downtown...4" inches of snow on the eastside my way...& crazy 8" inches abt 50 miles NE in Amite! 

 

 

BTW Pantera was the chit back in the day!

The Polar Vortex digs all the way down to the Gulf South...projected LOW temps in BR tonight 17 degrees...Coldest Low since Feb of 96'....& would break the Record for the Date set way back in 1970(20 degrees)....  Only the thicker cloud deck would keep it from break the record.

 

Today's High temp was ONLY 34...28 degrees below normal!

I worked in the weather today and yesterday, after about 6 layers you can't really feel it. The only thing that suffered were my hands, they were FROZEN.

Wow! 6 layers?? I bet you could not feel the cold! Could you have used some light weight gloves?

 

This cold snap has been nice....the past few Winter's have been too balmy.

I had on a thin pair but they didn't help much. Yeah I appreciated the cold, we don't get enough of it here.

Winter Weather Advisory is in effect for southern Louisiana including Lake Charles...Lafayette & Baton Rouge...WAFB in BR calls for a 40% chance of snow/sleet late tonight early tomorrow morning....more accumulation is expected the further west you go.

The Artic Assault continues across south Louisiana...Winter Storm Warnings will remain through the night as low temps will drop to 19 degrees! Currently at 4:00PM BR is ONLY 25 degrees!! 

 

Like last Friday(freezing rain too)...most of the the wintry precip has been sleet this time...however a nice band of snow is approaching from the NW nearing St.Francisville...and could be in BR by sunset??

 

In true Gulf South form...temps could rebound all the way up to 70 by the weekend!

After a little preview of Spring-like weather....Winter returns...continues to flex it's muscles...not giving up yet in early March!  Today only reached 36 degrees(34 degrees below average)...Tying an All-Time Coldest High Temp in March! And BR's 4th "Ice Event"(in eight weeks!) of the Season today....as a lifelong resident of BR have never witnessed this many in one Winter! ....usually don't get 4 ice events in 4 years!

 

An average Winter in BR has 16 Freezes....this Winter has 35 Freezes so far! Think this near the Top 5 All Time...

Yeah that was really disappointing!

 

At the beginning of the first ice event (in early a.m. of Jan 24th) there were some large snowflakes...but only briefly with no accumulation...mostly a massive sleet storm!

 

Really thought we'd get snow for the 2nd ice event(as forecast)...but just a lot of sleet/freezing rain instead.

 

The 3rd....there were actually flurries for almost an hour/no accumulation...mostly sleet again...thankfully temps were at 34 so the roads were OK

Severe Thunder storms rolled across the BR area(esp eastern section) late Sunday night/early Monday morning with hail & high winds.  Estimating wind gust 50-60 mph? in the Millerville area....

Maybe he was referring to all of the ice stroms this past Winter?? Which refuses to let go....A RECORD LOW Temp of 37 this morning was set in BR...breaking the record of 39 set back in 1983!

Definitely  not the norm for the middle of May....very comfortable this time of year! Yesterday (Thursday) morning a Record Low of 50 was Broken BR Metro Airport...previous record was 53...and this morning missed tying Record Low(51)by just one degree!

 

Statewide, temperatures Thursday ranged from 15 to 20 degrees below normal

Back to reality as the heat returns next week with Summer just around the corner!

 

Much of April was dry...then a Spring Deluge with 5 to 7 inches of rainfall across the area last weekend/early week...but back to dry weather with no rain for another 10 days?

Baton Rouge had Record Low Temp of 62 this morning... shattering the record July 17th from back in 1967!   It's also one of the top 10 coolest July mornings on record dating back to the late 1800's.....

A 2nd July Cool Front blew thru ??   A Low temp of 67 degrees last night in BR & only 83 at noon w 46% humidity! NICE! Feels more like mid September instead of late July! If this weather pattern were to continue later on this year...we could have another COLD Winter!

Yes indeed! A nice break from the sweltering heat! That kind of low humidity this time of year is so rare! Would like to put this weather in a bottle! There was not even a cloud in the sky...crystal clear blue!

The Louisiana/Gulf South region is about to be side swiped by the season's 1st Polar Express just in time for November...low temps in the BR area could be in the upper 30's for the next two mornings Sat/Sun! Not to worry temps will be nearing 80 by the middle of next week. The area is also under a dry spell...

A possible Record Tying Low Temp of 20 degrees tonight for Baton Rouge as an Arctic Blast blows thru the area ...November proved to be chilly with 5 freezes; only 1 in December & 1 so far in January...looks like the next three nights should be freezing  Forecast even calls for a low of 26 in NOLA

The 2nd Winter Storm in three days will race across northern Louisiana tomorrow...yesterday the Shreveport area had sleet mixed with freezing rain....& tomorrow up to 3 " inches of snow is expected; currently under a Winter Storm Warning

Baton Rouge set a Record Low Temp of 26 degrees on March 6th...

 

An after a high temp of 84 Wednesday afternoon...a drop of nearly 50 degrees in 24 hours on Thursday...it was 36 in the middle of the day with sleet/mixed in the rain. Lafayette reported snow flurries
