Finally some dry weather after a record (for April) 9 straight days of measurable rain...even a Tornado Warning for the Alexandria area last night. Today & tomorrow perfect temps with highs in the mid-upper 70's & lows mid/upper 50's

 

BR tied a Record High Temp of 87 back on April 8th...next week the area could see the season's 1st 90 degree temp?

A weather day that will not be forgotten in the BR/NOLA area for a long time! I have NEVER seen it as DARK as I did today...has been described as apocalyptic...that's not too far fetched! 

 

Severe Thunderstorms in the early morning raced from east Texas (moving East @55 mph  ) w reports of downed trees...downed trees along Atchafaylaya Basin Bridge/BR/& NOLA w 60-70mph wind gust....not sure how many "confirmed" tornados there were across the region?  But making National news nonetheless!!

Thankfully I was in the locker rooms when the storm really got bad, we had just gotten in from the gym and remarked how dark the sky was, when the moved us to the downstairs locker rooms we saw the sky again; it was like night time.

Yes it was like night time!  Got eerie for a few minutes...

 

It's been 2 1/2 weeks and their is still big time debris along roads & streets; from the storm damage(limbs/branches/trees)...DPW underestimated how much...so extra contractor is being hired

5th Wettest Month of May for Baton Rouge's since records were kept in 1892! 

 

So far is first week of June has been a nice dry out to cut the ridiculously long grass in the yard!

The steamy 80 degree Low temperature last night in Baton Rouge was the first in nearly 3 years...& only the 24th time since they began records in 1892!  The High temps have been 97 + for three consecutive days too!

June was a wet month for the Sherwood Forest area in eastern BR...with over 11 inches of rain! While the Airport got much less...6 " inches of rain

June was very wet...July has been brutally HOT!   Record High Temp of 99 degrees set yesterday in BR! And at least 98 the past five days!

Summer still Flexing it Muscles one more time in mid-October? The area has enjoyed some sneak previews of Fall..but not for very long...(Record Low High Temp Set for BR on Oct 4th a cloudy 66!) The High Temps have been in the lower 90's for several days...yesterday it was 96 in Shreveport & 92 in BR! But Fall is back (here to stay?) as a Cool-front blows thru tonight...High's only upper 70's this weekend!

Fire Hazard Weather Watch is in effect thru the weekend for the region  for drought-like conditions & extremely low humidity; it's been a rare occurrence w the contrast/range of High & low temps...about 40 degrees...from the Hot/dry 92 to a cool Low of 51!  Can't ever remember it that extreme!

The next rain chances do not come into play until late next week!

Well those rain chances last weekend ended up coming from the remnants of Hurricane Patricia in the Pacific (Strongest Recorded History of the Western Hemisphere)...was ripped apart as it raced across Mexico; a total of 10.7" inches of rain in BR ( 9.5" at my house)...the Largest Two Day Total since 2001 Tropical Storm Allison! Though the Hurricane remnants was never renamed as it entered Gulf( never became TS Kate)...it had virtually the same effects .... Drought Buster for sure!

After a dry week...another storm system approaches from the west just in time for this weekend...Prompting Several Tornado Warnings across the state as we speak...Stay Tuned

Been awhile since posting in my own personal weather thread...meteorologist wannabe

Only 11 freezes in BR so far this season...& it's the mildest Winter since 98-99'....lowest recorded temp so far at BR Metro Airport only 27 degrees..they laugh up north

Weekend looks Spring-like w high temps in mid-70's...great weather for LSU Baseball season opener

Had some strong storms w pea-sized hail this past Monday...nearly 1 1/2" of rain...for an El ~Nino Winter it has not been overly wet

Potent weather system coming out of the southern Rockies now in west Texas...uncommon to have schools "non hurricane"   close the day before

Part of Southeast Louisiana is under moderate risk of severe weather, and the rest of the area is under enhanced risk. Severe weather could start as early as noon.

Parishes have closed schools tomorrow due to expected severe weather

Another crazy weather week...1st it was the epic flooding in north Louisiana,,,in Bossier City, Monroe, etc...then SE Louisiana (Florida Parishes) with rivers cresting at or near Record High levels...at least the Top 5...due to a slow moving Low pressure system that dug deep down in Mexico funneling big time moisture from the Gulf

Thankfully the system has finally moved out of the area...the Sunshine should return & Spring-like temps

After the stormy weather this past weekend w 5"-10" inches of rain in the Acadiana/Atchafalaya area with Flash Flooding & around  4 1/2" in BR...the "payoff" has been very nice crisp Spring weather for early May! High temps in the upper 70's & lows in the upper 50's...tomorrow night's forecast low in BR is 53!

Some Epic Rainfall w Flooding from area rivers that will easily rival 1983 & Tropical Storm Allison in 01'..from Kentwood to BR to Lafayette....even the best drainage systems are not able to handle 11" inches of rain in 8 hours/   NOLA dodged a bullet by 50 miles or so...

This  Low Pressure system that gave Florida problems earlier in the week is moving VERY SLOW to the west..just now nearing I-55 near the State-line at Kentwood/McComb MS...The system exploded overnight...had this been in the Gulf it would have become Tropical Storm Fiona...but it's inland...the high rain chances look to be thru this weekend bec of the slow movement

Nice satellite imagery above with a developing Tropical Storm Hermine down in the Gulf headed toward the big bend of Florida Friday...the last thing this area needed after this...

Calling this RECORD BREAKING MONTH for rainfall does not do it justice!!  Shattering the Record w OVER 30" inches of rain in August (Avg 5.82"))....INSANE!!! The Old Record was 23.73" way back in May of 1907!   For the Year BR has 74.23" already....32" above the average for this time of the year....& Average Rainfall per  Year is 60.62".....it could be dry the last 4 months (Sept-Dec) & still be nearly 14" above normal!!

After a few lil' sneak previews...Finally some Fall weather for the area...Low temps in the upper 40's the past two mornings..& High's Fri/Sat only in mid 70's...after near Record Breaking Highs of 90 in the previous days

After Record Breaking 30 inch rainfall in August...October had been bone dry until near 1/2" of rain fell Thurs Night ahead of the  cool front

It will not take much Rainfall to get to #4th Wettest Year in BR All-time

Cold front to bring much cooler temps to south Louisiana by end of week

It’s about to feel a lot more like winter in south Louisiana.

Showers could develop overnight Wednesday, bringing cooler temperatures to the region. High temperatures Thursday will reach around 50 degrees in Baton Rouge and into the upper 50s in New Orleans, according to the National Weather Service.

A strong cold front will then push through by early Friday, dropping temperatures even further. The National Weather Service warns that sub-freezing temperatures are expected across much of the region both Friday and Saturday morning, with overnight lows in the 20s expected in Baton Rouge on Friday night.

High temperatures during the daytime on Friday are expected to be in the 40s in both Baton Rouge and New Orleans. High temperatures on Saturday will be in the mid-50s.

Could tie a Record Low in BR tonight...20 degrees../ Duration of the Freeze 16 hours??  .....after last night's low of 22 & some very light snow flurries blowing around..

But typical...Forecast High is 72 by Tuesday

As Cajun mentioned ion the BR Thread...A Significant Tornado Threat today & tonight....there was a Tornado Emergency Warning recently for Alexandria in CenLa...Hopefully all is safe & sheltered in place

 

This past Winter was waay tooo mild...Gulf water temps warmer than normal fueling these big time storms in the Spring

Garbage...^ It's believable when you hear  Government say "Never Let a Good Crisis to Waste"....Congress is right on this; but has their own set of issues...is there such a thing as Term Limits?

 

Weather is fascinating ...TODAY Crystal clear blue skies; very dry just 28% humidity....& TOMORROW ...this....Stationary Front down in the Gulf already setting up...will prime the air earl;y afternoon...before Cold Front w Squall line comes racing thru late evening.  Then more nice weather crisp early May Spring Weather with low's in the 50's for next 5 nights

Flash Flood Watch also will go into effect

 

Already had one round of Severe weather Sunday with some damage caused by some smaller tornados..
