FINALLY!  Fall Weather coming!  Glad Louisiana will be spared of massive Hurricane Michael to the East...hoping for the best for all in the path; esp in the Florida Panhandle

Fall weather in south Louisiana is close, y'all; check out details on timing, temps, more

How delayed has the start to fall been? Last year, for example, the first taste of fall arrived about a month sooner in early September. Contrast that with 2016 when fall-like temperatures first showed up near the end of September-early October, according to NWS data.

Pretty mild Winter (not much sunshine at all)....it was almost Spring for the 3rd February in a row ; BR had No Freezes. Then calendar turned to March and couple Freezes happened just in time for Mardi Gras.  And Winter is flexing it's muscles again as the calendar turns to April. Chilly/cloudy today with High temps staying in the mid 50's? Next two mornings Lows of  41 & 39!  Thinking most around here are ready for the Warmer weather again!

All the Rain in central U.S. / & Snow Cover to the North has Mississippi River at  high levels; prompting the opening of the Bonne Carre spillway west of NOLA.  Check out the tremendous flow of water in western Lake Ponchartrain; Massive plume of mud. (about 10 days ago)

It's that time of year again...last April was busy; this April looking no different (already 5-6" inches of rain)...& a few bouts of Severe weather

Tomorrow State Offices & Schools are Closed due to "Enhanced Risk" of Severe Weather...actually 10% chance of EF2 Tornado within 25 miles/ Weather Channel had Tor Con value of "6" = 60% Tornado within 50 miles

At least the Storms will be in the  daytime & not at night

Tropical Storm Barry brewing in the northern Gulf just off the Louisiana coast....plenty people nervous after the game changing Flood of '16...

Expected to make landfall  Saturday morning ;  this thing is barely moving & the  lop sided storm had been battling dry -air; but appears to be gaining some strength now!

Thanks for the reply....understandably so Dan.  My In-laws & plenty others nerves are on edge as well.  About 44' feet is where their home took on water in '16.  The Amite River shattered the old record  (41.5ft' in '83)  at   46.2' ft.

Looking for any silver-lining ...many times River Stage projections are Set  Higher to be on the Safe side. ( see NOLA/Miss River going down 3 or 4 ft' since what was first thought)  .  And  the ground is not as saturated as it was prior to the '16 Flood.  And this storm should have some breaks in the rain; unlike the continuous deluge of '16.    Hoping for the Best....

Stay Safe ...Stay Dry! Prayers your way

Yes those are all good points. I was happy to see New Orleans projections went down. It's scary to think what might have happened had it flooded full of people considering the loss of life during Katrina when it was mostly empty.

Thanks, same to you! :)

Thanks Dan...thankfully the Rainfall amounts did not pan out yesterday like anticipated. Dry-air to the North suffocated the top half of Barry keeping the heavy rain down in the Gulf.

But Barry still packing a punch today as he moves inland toward Shreveport ...Heavy rain has been occurring in the BR area; along w a few Tornado Warnings.

Barry was an unusual storm(brief Hurricane?) with origins  coming from the Midwest/KC; dropping SE into GA ; then finally NE Gulf ; creating an elongated Gyre; lopsided battling dry air.

Actually looks more organized today inland

Hurricane Season Curtain Call for Louisiana??

Last Week Tropical Storm Nestor formed in the SW Gulf ; but stayed for enough South w minimal effects

Friday Tropical Storm Olga formed nearly in the same exact location; instead moved NNE straight toward SE LA . Even though it lost tropical characteristics in the cooler northern Gulf water & merging w Cold Front  before making landfall;  She  packed more punch than most ; including NWS Surface predicted...

Mandeville  73 mph Wind Gust ... Belle Chasse 68mph gust ; 59 NOLA Intl Airport; 58mph in Hammond
