A portion of the new Amazon fulfillment center being built in Carencro has come down.

Photos shared with KATC show a portion of the roof appears to have collapsed.

Witnesses in the area say that the job site is closed down and it appears that workers are not on site.

On Monday around 7:45 pm, Carencro Police responded to a call that a wall or a portion of the building had collapsed, according to Carencro Police Chief David Anderson. Officers arrived on the scene and learned there were no injuries.

Carencro Fire Department says that it did respond to the structural collapse of a large portion of the office area of the Amazon facility.

Thanks for posting Cajun!     Saw there were 8 tornadoes across SW LA  Monday. On top of the copious amounts of rain that spread into the SBR/Ascension  Parish area!

BR is having  our 3rd Wettest Spring on Record!   Thankfully looks like DRY FORECAST for the last week of May! Badly needed!

Check out the Spin in Western Gulf headed toward TX coast. NOAA giving this a 60% of developing into Tropical Depression before landfall. Good news is plenty dry-air is wrapped into the system.

Watching the Tropics down in the Gulf of Mexico; regardless if it's a Tropical Storm (Claudette?) or Tropical Depression; it looks to be dumping plenty of unneeded  rain over South Louisiana. Looks to be a "lop-sided" system w most of the heavy rainfall on the Eastern side of the Center.

First 6 months (1/2) the year...on pace in BR to have 2nd Wettest Year (only 1989 more); while on vacation in DRY San Antonio it RAINED EVERY DAY in BR....

And it has already rained today since last night's graphic was posted on WAFB....It is relentless!!   the back yard grass is a thick jungle ; feels like  mowing will not get done anytime soon!   Wish we could donate some of this rain to the drought stricken West!

It’s been a soggy first half of 2021 for Baton Rouge.

The capital city had its second-highest rainfall total for the first six months of the year, at just over 48 inches, according to weather service figures.

“It’s been extremely wet,” said Phil Grigsby, the lead forecaster at the National Weather Service in Slidell. “We’ve been talking about it for the past few days. It’s crazy how much rain has fallen.”

Only one other year — 1989 — saw more rainfall from January to the end of June at the Baton Rouge airport. The rainfall 32 years ago was about 2 inches more than the first half of this year, according to National Weather Service data.

 

For scale: At the halfway point of the year, the amount of rain recorded is already about 78% of what the region typically sees annually.

Parts of south Baton Rouge and the river parishes likely saw even higher totals. One storm in mid-May produced nearly 14 inches of rain and caused severe flash flooding.

Louisiana is the wettest state in the continental U.S., averaging about 60 inches of precipitation each year. The 4 feet of rain that has fallen in Baton Rouge so far this year is more than the yearly average for 38 states.

This Graphic from WAFB needs to be updated....add to the totals RAIN RAIN RAIN EVERYDAY EVERYDAY!   2021 has surpassed 1989 as the Wettest Year To-Date"Been a long time since i can remember "2 consecutive Dry days"....hopefully that changes later this week as Saharan DUST moves into the northern Gulf!  Bring on some DRY weather please!  Can we donate some of this rain to the drought stricken West!

Not sure if that 54 inches is the Airport of WAFB studio Downtown?   Some areas SE EBR & Northern Ascension have reportedly over 60 inches!

Still early ...but the current  Forecast track of Tropical Storm IDA  is not looking too promising.

Possibly a strong CAT #2 or CAT #3  at landfall....  the GFS model has Ida moving in sooner than the Euro model.

SE Louisiana about to take an upper cut to the chin from Major Hurricane Ida! 

Forecast track too close for comfort for Baton Rouge....going to be a bumpy ride

Could make landfall as a CAT #4 ...a strong #3 at the very least

Hey Dan326...hope everything is OK.    Hearts go out to all of the destruction across SE LA.

After hammering Houma/Grand Isle etc; the Eye of Hurricane Ida turned more "Northerly for a few hours..that was a big difference in not taking a direct hit; so instead  it went  across I-12 @ Livingston ...so  eastern BR was in the " Western Eye -Wall" ; could have been worse had we been in Eastern/Northern Eye Wall....BR only 4 inches of rain ; Hammond?? 12+ inches???

BR Airport recorded a 65 mph max wind gust ....here in Millerville /O'Neal area it was more like 75-80mph gust being 10 miles closer to the Eye. Spoke with WAFB's Grymes & Caparotta...they agreed!

Got our power back on yesterday @ 2:00pm...what was weird we got power 1st on Monday Night 7:00pm..nice surprise sleepng in some AC. BUT .....Tuesday afternoon 2:00pm ..it went OUT AGAIN .....So that lasted another 24 hours ....weird

STILL VERY IMPRESSIVE! Ida wrecking havoc w Tornadoes yesterday in Maryland & NJ ;  + flooding in PA & NYC Subways today!

Louisiana loves em some rain!  It gets old....weather forecasters missed badly on the amount  of rain we would get.  Way above average since April...and the remnants of tropical depression Nicholas made for a too wet September!   

Had a nice perfectly timed  "Fall Cool Front"  blow thru Autumn Equinox Wed /22nd ...had about 5 PERFECT SUNNY/DRY Low Humidity Days. Weather forecasters missed badly on the amount  of rain we would get this past week. Still NO SUNSHINE TODAY!  Hope to get another Cool Front by mid next week!

Potent Upper -level Low associated with a Winter Storm  that dumped over a foot of snow in Iowa; now  spinning in the Ozarks/Arkansas today....maybe North Louisiana along the I-20 corridor gets a little snow? Down here in BR will be lucky to get a couple of flurries....

WINTER  in BR was pretty decent ; we had 15 Freezes...and plenty of other Low temps 33, 34, 35 etc

BR averages about 20 Freezes per Year....    21 degrees was the Coldest recorded in mid January ...December was way too warm

 

 

All types of severe weather expected Tuesday; Baton Rouge area in part of bulls-eye as some schools close

Its that time of year again ...Strong Spring Storm headed thru the area Tuesday ....Spring Equinox was yesterday

The Storm Prediction Center in Oklahoma is warning that the weather could be especially rough in portions of Louisiana and southern Mississippi tomorrow, designating the area as having a "moderate risk" of severe weather.

What a difference!  It's like someone flipped the switch!  16 straight days of recorded rainfall back in late July-early August

..........to THIS very dry weather!    No Real measurable rain since Sept 9th over a month ago. Had to few slick spots  on the pavement from very little  light rain  last Thursday ...

Now near Record Lows last night & tonight at 36...one degree from tying 35!    Earliest Freeze was Oct 27 1898.  Came close but dont think we get that.

A very Dry October gave way to some record High Temps in early November ; then Winter flipped the switch a couple of weeks mid/late November ; until BR had it's Wettest Thanksgiving ( 4" inches of rain) on record

. December started off warm & muggy. Little green sprouts w flowers coming up.....but now Area schools will be closed tomorrow with Severe Weather threat.  NW La already reported a few Tornadoes today ;   then back to Winter as the Storm systems comes thru.

Tornado slinging debris as it crossed 169 SW of Shreveport! 4x8 pieces of Plywood were falling in front of me which signifies someones roof being removed!

Last Wednesday there were 21 Tornadoes across the state; this week  Arctic Outbreak coming late Thursday the 22nd  on the heels of the Winter Solstice on the Wednesday 21st

 

The EURO Model flexing ; not sure what the GFS says?  NWS forecast Lows at 20 for BR on consecutive nights. The High may not get above Freezing at 32??

It never got down to 17 degrees in BR....But we did have 4 consecutive "Hard Freezes"...happens about only once every 10 years.

Yesterday temps rebounded quickly with High 73 ...today even warmer at a Spring -like  78!
