vicupstate 700 Report post Posted February 26 According to what I read, Belk was not closing any stores as part of the bankruptcy but AFTER they emerged from bankruptcy, which has just happened, there could be some closing. Hard to believe their wouldn't be any at all, whether the Haywood/Westgate ones are or not.
Cityplanner 99 Report post Posted February 26 I'd be surprised if Westgate closed. It has multiple anchors and plenty of in-line stores still. Plenty of malls limp along with 1 anchor and a high interior vacancy rate. Westgate isn't at that stage.

I just figure that a retailer that's filing for bankruptcy and is in a distressed industry (mall-based department stores) can say it won't close stores, but I'll believe that when I see it. It's just a matter of time before department stores are history. Same for Westgate Mall.

Malls as we have known them are history. The future of malls involve uses beyond retail and dining. Lodging, residential, offices, conventions, etc. are untapped uses.
