I think it could work for an UrbanPlanet.org sign until something better comes along. What say you all?

Hey, that's an idea! but how about we use each letter or more than one per building we dont like...

Greenville News gets all of Urban- dont want to miss a spot...

BIG LETTERS by the way

Since Tianjian China is one of our sister cities, maybe we could coax a Chinese company to locate in DT. The Chinese government builds tall skyscrapers like we build houses. Could be some unique architecture too. :)

:) I like your way of thinking. That's a great idea! And gee, what a great thing to get out of such a relationship!

So it sounds like 2007 will be the year for DT construction. The Peacock, the Pinnacle, The Camperdown, and maybe even the Bob Ellis / btoy (state tallest) tower. And there is still the Riverplace Phase 3 that is supposed to be on the dockett pretty soom right? Perhaps by 2010 our skyline will be the most impressive in the state? :D

That is the type of mixed-use tower I have been speaking of many times recently. There is really no reason Greenville can't support such a development in downtown.

Absolutely! This building is beautiful, and it it is the sort of project that could be a signiture building, and could jump start many other projects. And you're correct, there IS no reason why Gville couldn't do aomethin like this. And this is the type of design that Gville needs; not just a brick/glass structure. This one has a lot of character and creativity to it. I do not understand why the architects around here come up with such bland designs. The Peacock is going to be nice, but IMO it doesn't touch the look this one has. As I have said before, our regional architects could use some lessons.

Well, I don't know exactly how long it will take Greenville to develop a "big city" skyline, but the addition of the three likely towers we know of, will certainly make a positive difference!

RT gave me permission to use one of his larger photos shot from Paris Mountain, and this is the vague representation I have come up with so far:

Without the added towers:

Thanks Skyliner. The G'ville skyline should look a lot more respectable in a year or two. Right now it just doesn't look like there is much of a downtown. You actually have to be there to see how vibrant it is.

Although - I think we'd all agree it's better to have a great downtown even if it doesn't look like it, than to have one that looks great but isn't.

Perhaps Greenville will have both soon.

Your second quote is right on the money! That is what many other cities have come to realize as a direct result of visiting Greenville first hand. Across the nation, they have changed their focus from building to impress Interstate traffic, to rebuilding the urban core into an attractive place for pedestrians. This is what gives Greenville an edge over so many larger cities. :shades:

Greenville better get on the ball, because Asheville is really making some noise these days. :shok:

A very interesting excerpt from the article:

Commission to discuss a project at the intersection of Ravenscroft Drive and Collier Avenue that would, as currently configured, have buildings of 20, 14, 14 and 12 stories and a total of 450 residential condominiums.

That's an interesting part of town in Asheville to be putting such a project. It's south of Livingston / west of McDowell, if I'm not mistaken. It's a bit more than a convenient walk into downtown from there, but will definitely provide some "uptown" living options for folks looking to capitalize on the "best places to live" craze.

I will be shocked if it happens. Assuming they will require at least half of the condos to be accounted for before starting construction, that's a lot of interested people who want to live in downtown (sort of) Asheville.

If our condo projects (of a smaller scale, in a larger metro) are any indication, this project will be really delayed or never come to fruition.

You have to remember though, Asheville is ranked as one of the top cities to live in throughout the whole country. If anything, the condos there would sell out in a heartbeat.

You forgot about the Riverplace phase 3 tower and the city hall site tower even though we don't know how many stories tall they will be.

Yea, carolinadude9409, I think Skyliner's intent with this image was to show what the skyline will look like with the three additional towers that are imminent rather than with the speculative ones.

This new image of Skyliner's probably would fit with this other thread, too. In fact, there are a few threads about the Greenville Skyline that could really be merged together.

Heck, for that matter, there are a lot of "duplicate" type threads that I'd love to merge together to clean things up a bit here.
