The Branson Landing is a 450 million dollar lakefront boardwalk situated on the banks of Lake Taneycomo in Historic Downotown Branson. There will be over 150 speacialty retail shops, restaurants and entertainment.

The boardwalk will be 1 mi. long and will span across the development along the lake. The creators of the fountains at the Belagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas will be creating the fountains, flame burts, light show.....for the boardwalk. The two main anchors will be Bass Pro Shops (with a floating restaurant) and Belk Department Store. A 12 story Hilton Hotel and Convention Center will be adjacent to the Landing as well as 2-5 story Hilton boutique hotels in the Landing. The new Branson Convention Center will be next to the landing and will house restuarants and more. This development alone is expected to bring 4 million more visitors annually to the Branson area.

This sounds really interesting, esp. the boardwalk and 4 million new tourists. That many new visators should generate a lot of new economic stimulus and tax revenue for the area.

Wasn't there some controvery over this development? Or I'm I confusing this with another lakeside development in the region.

In those renderings, are those torches along the lake?

I think your talking about the Casino or maybe some other development that had opposition. The Branson Landing was backed so much by the city that I don't think anyone with negative oppinions would be heard, but most people were thrilled when they announced this project.

Yes, Those are torches or Flame bursts as I like to call them. The people that did the Belagio fountains in Vegas will do the fountains and such at the Landing.

The proposed Casino was to be in the nearby city of Rockaway Beach. An attempt to change state law and allow gambling on Lake Taneycomo in the Rockaway Beach area was defeating in a statewide vote. There has been recent talk of the city and its backers trying again in the near future. Also the Branson Landing project is actually projected to see total visitors in the 4 to 4.5 million range with only about 340 to 430 thousand new or first time visitors. Branson Landing just blows me away from just the description and the renders, so I can't wait until this is built. If it's as nice as it sounds and looks in renders then I don't see how Eureka Springs can stay alive. Why would anyone bother leaving Branson Landing to visit Eureka Springs?

I can't wait either! I been down to see what it looks like and man is it HUGE! All but 50 of the stores will open on May 26 and then the rest will open steadily and be complete by the end of June. I know this propably won't help Eureka Spring's but I don't think the town will just go under. There's too many people in the region now to let that happen. That town just needs some life brought back into it, not that it doesn't, but I think it could use some help.

I think Eureka Springs is more of a curiosity than a major attraction. Eureka Springs is a fun place for a cheap weekend getaway when there's nothing else going on in NWA.

From the times that I have been there I have personally enjoyed it for the most part. I think someone mentioned that they should try to advertise the city as a spa oriented place, I think this would be perfect seeing how many people are moving to NWA I'm sure that it would do very well.

It's a quaint little historical town. If you ask me, I'd rather live in Eureka Springs than Branson, simply because it's more quaint.

I'm 100% sure the town won't go under just because a large development is opening up in Branson. People are still going to want to live in Eureka.

I was actually referring to the 4.5 million tourists that Branson Landing is expected to draw each year. There's going to be a lot more to spend their money on in Branson than Eureka Springs, which may not die, but I'd expect it to lose a lot of business. It will still remain a "curiosity" for those seeking a more historic excursion off the beaten path. Like I said, Eureka Springs will be a cheap alternative to Branson when there's nothing else going on. If I have my choice to spend a weekend and some extra cash I would definitely go to Branson before Eureka Springs.

That sums it up. I would also think that the BL might go either way, meaning that it could bring more business to Eureka Springs because of trvelers seeing sings on the way to Branson, or look at it as somethin they don't care about. Like I said before the town wont die simply because there are too many rich people in the Ozarks to let one of their favorite towns die off.

Thanks for clearing that up. I don't think that anyone will really know how many people are going to visit but I wouldn't doubt that figure just because of all of the advertising and news coverage everyone is talking about it. I would think we will have to wait until next spring when the 12 story Hilton and convention center is complete because that will draw a huge amount too.

You can upload them to a place like flickr, image shack or photo bucket. I think I've heard of others but these are the ones that come to mind. Then you can paste the image location to your post here. It would be great to see some pics of the Landing and for that matter the area.

I use flickr.com and it uses my existing yahoo id so I don't have to register with them. I wouldn't go crazy with a ton of pics because there's a limit to how many pics you can store and I think they may have a time limit too.

Anyway:

1. sign on to flickr.com

2. select upload photos

3. browse your harddrive for your pics and add them

4. click upload below

5. click save below

6. click on a picture in your photos

7. click on all sizes from above the picture

8. right click picture and click properties

9. highlight address and copy

10. click the insert image (tree) icon above the text box that you're posting with on UP

11. paste address into the explorer user prompt (don't duplicate the http:// in the address)

Be sure not to delete a picture from flickr.com that you've posted on a forum or it will no longer show up on the forum.

Well the first 48 stores open to the public today! :yahoo: I will be visiting tommoro and will get some pics.
