Paul Goldman withdraws from Mayoral race. And despite vigorously disputing the Richmond Democratic Committee's premature endorsement of Dwight Jones, Goldman is now supporting Jones for the Mayor's job.

Yeah I'm not sure what to make of it. I really liked Goldman... straightforward, intelligent. I was probably going to be voting for him but now I'm not sure how I'm leaning. I like a lot of what Jones has had to say but the endorsements from some of the political groups is a negative in my opinion.

This news that Barack Obama will be appearing at The Richmond Coliseum tomorrow (Wednesday) at about noon did not get much attention in today's inRich.

For that matter, I can't find any mention whatsoever at inRich about Obama suspending his campaign Thursday and Friday to visit his ailing grandmother in Hawaii.

There are about 12,000 FREE seats available for tomorrow's rally. Doors open at 10 a.m. and Obama takes to the podium at about noon.

The Richmond Coliseum is downtown between Clay, Leigh, 5th and 7th Streets. Plenty of parking decks nearby. The Greater Richmond Convention Center is directly across 5th Street. If there is an overflow crowd at the Coliseum I wonder if they also will televise it in the convention center?

Lest anyone thought I was demeaning the Times Dispatch, they released this at 12:58 p.m. today about Obama's trip to Hawaii. The story was all over cable news last night.

It will be interesting to read about the joint Grey/Pantele press conference.

Rachael Maddow interviewed Doug Wilder at 9pm last night on MSNBC and the illuminated skyline shot of Richmond is the best I've seen on any of the numerous news shows that cut to Richmond for comments.

Since it was NBC, it must be a stock shot in that network's archives.

It is now 10:21am here in NYCity (I've been unable to adjust the Urban Planet clock) and I've just gotten back from voting downstairs in my building. Amazingly, it took only 20 minutes. They said the lines were horrendous early, but it wasn't so bad a few minutes ago.

New York is the only state that still uses the old "pull-the- lever" voting system.

I commisserate with and admire those of you in Greater Richmond who are having to wait in long lines while being pelted with rain. :good:

The rain's not so bad... I woke up to a call from my aunt who said her line in Henrico was 4 blocks long at 7AM. My mother was in line at her precinct at 5:30AM and got home at 7:30. That prompted me to drive by mine which had a wide line from the school entrance to the street and a little bit up the sidewalk. However, by the time my grandmother and I went, the line was inside. My line, A-K, started at the cafeteria doors while the L-Z line went way down a hallway. People were constantly coming. This was much different than the primary, the usual place, a small hallway at the precinct was used then, and I walked up and was out in maybe 5 minutes. It was not a bad wait today compared to other places and what I've heard... only 30-45 minutes. I'm still glad I was able to get this day off. It didn't become available until last week as I had attempted to take it off before. I had, however earlier in the year taken off the 5th because I knew I'd be up all night watching the results.

My only regret is that I wish I had known Lawrence Williams was a member of my church and that his family are Woodville folk. Maybe next time.

Happy voting folks!

A lot of national attention seems to be on Virgina's pollsite problems today. Is Virgina going to be the Ohio/Florida of the 2008 election? What kind of election problems have there been in the past?

Okay so now the McCain campaign has filed a lawsuit over Virginia military absentee ballots.

The last time I saw a street celebration in Richmond similar to this was VE Day in 1945!

It's remarkable to have lived through such a panoply of history!

:yahoo:

Thank God for youth!

This story and video from today's inRich:

Wooo Hooo! I got a little worried when I started seeing VA pop-up with voting problems.

I'm going through Henrico County precinct info today and comparing results to my precinct. in Pulaski County, AR.

My precinct: 51 McCain to 49 Obama.

Pulaski County (Little Rock): 55 Obama to 43 McCain (similar to Henrico),

Arkansas: 59 McCain to 39 Obama.

Arkansas didn't see much attention from the Democrats did it? I found it odd the Clintons didn't hammer away at it.

I was amazed early last night that Henrico flipped to blue. I didn't think I'd see that. Typically all the counties around Richmond are red and all but Henrico and Charles City were. Then all the other counties that turned blue... amazing! And it seems like Obama gave McCain a good run in many counties and cities... Obama lost Norton by 6 votes! It's a small city though.

All in all, it went smoothly. Some people were expecting massive problems and I know every election people always want to reform the system throughout the country. Maybe they should seriously look into it so that there can be as little errors and problems as possible.

Now on to the governor's race, which I suspect would be won by the Republicans.

Shak, isn't that a communist country? Why not move to Cuba where the "scary" Castro brothers are? It's closer. :) Everything's going to be alright though. Your attitude should be supportive.

Arkansas has 6 electoral votes. Obama did open a campaign office here after he received the nomination. Also, Bubba and Hillary made it here two or three times after the nomination, but that was just in Little Rock. There was not a statewide effort by the democrats. Since 1980 Arkansas has been a red stated except for Clinton.

While my pending move to Richmond is not the most ideal timing-wise, it is generally a good year to move from a red state to a blue state.

Sounds a lot better than give all the money to the wealthiest people and let's hope they feel like passing a few cents down to the average working people. That philosophy is in its death throes, put away the defibrillator. It sounds like you're one of the super rich then. I know I'll be getting a tax cut which would help give me a better share of the pie along with 95% of other working people. It's not fair to tax us working folk to death while the richest people hardly work and have to pay anything and get a lot of freebies. The wealth has already been redistributed to those who already had it.

Then you have businesses like the one I work for where our benefits and pay are cut, but the president gets a 3 million dollar bonus for what? Sending our jobs to Canada, Costa Rica, India, Barbados, and Colombia? Remember all those massive layoffs over the last 3 years? Even my original position was shipped to India and there's a threat right now to destroy where I was moved and ship that off somewhere. I was one of the lucky ones the last time, they got rid of a lot of good friends/coworkers. Talk about taking money and giving it to someone else. They're taking our money and giving it to people who don't even live in this country! The "savings" are given only to the richest upper management. It does not trickle down the hierarchy. So that's the way it should be? If big businesses could, they'd repeal the 13th Amendment so they wouldn't have to pay us lowly folk. They already do not want to pay us. So hopefully that incentive to keep screwing American workers is taken away by the Obama Administration and we get to keep our jobs here where they belong.

Must be nice to afford the luxury of worrying about socialism and communism.

I blame the unions for inflating the production of goods in this Country, hence why the term "cheap labor" abroad has become quite popular within the corporate world. They are just as greedy as Corporate America, yet they get a slap on the wrist. This same pattern will also happen in countries where jobs have gone. Then they will go other places around the world where labor is relatively cheap and previous mentioned will repeat.

Punishing those who have worked hard to become wealthy is a great solution. So why not spread the greed as well?

Just remember the top 20% control 80% of the resources. Upset them and more jobs will unfortunately leave the US; union or no union they will leave.

By the way, your federal income taxes are not all processed in the US...
