There hasn't been a "far left" Democrat since Paul Wellstone's plane went down
Dennis Kucinich! Wellstone had nothing on him. Cmon! Barbara Boxer!

If you think Libertarians represent the middle, then you really don't understand their party.

Libertarians are all over the place. However alot of the ideas that come out of their party does represent the middle.

You do realize there are several parties out there, to the left and right, besides Dems, GOP & Libertarians, right? The parties exists, there's just a general political apathy that keeps people from joining.

You fund the parties with federal and state money, then dole it out evenly, and let them fight it out. No outside donations. Over time you will see results.

The Dems have MSNBC, CNN, ABC, NBC.....etc.

I'm surprised to see CNN in there. I consider them to be a little more right leaning than the others listed (though no where near as right as fox. Most news stations are liberal leaning, but fall far short of the outright propoganda fox tries to put out. I will never forget the day, it was a few years ago. The Bush admin came out and said they were changing the time honored designation of terrorists who blow themselves up from suicide bomber to "Homicide Bomber". That very afternoon, no more than an hour after the press conference, fox news changed all their titles and started referring to suicide bombers as homicide bombers and still do to this day. No other news organization did this and I was taken aback by how much pull the administration had with them. The term used isn't important, but after that day it became quite clear to me where their affiliations lie.

It sways on both sides. I guess you don't see them as homicide bombers. They don't just kill uniformed personel, they kill woman and children. You got to see the real side when a left reporter said that the Hezbollah wouldn't let them start filming until they got empty a ambulance running back and forth like they were carrying hurt people behind the reporter.

The House of Delegates is not a good friend of transportation advocates, but oddly, the arch conservative legislative body will entertain a gambling proposal when they meet starting September 27th.

A candidate from Newport News whose name I have forgotten wants a bill that would allow video-type horse racing at Colonial Downs and its 9 sattelite betting parlors across the state. He claims that, after shaking down for a couple of years, the machines of chance could gross between six and nine-hundred million dollars annually with about 49% going to the state exclusively for transportation needs.

Arkansas has had great success with the machines at its two race tracks. Will Virginia expand its gambling options? What do you think?

Richmond has two of the nine statewide betting parlors and I've often wondered why Norfolk and Virginia Beach have none. I believe there is one in Suffolk or elsewhere among the seven cities.

I think there is one in Hampton and Chesapeake. I don't know how much interest there is for that type of gambling. I've only known one person that ever attended one regularly.

erdogs, would you be in favor of it as a means of raising dollars for highways and rails?

It wouldn't be my first choice! You know how it goes; the lottery was going to pay for education. I have a feeling tolls will be the only real way to get there. I'm living here in Texas now: what a differance in VDOT and the one here, what ever its called. They just finished the expantion of a new toll road and finished a year ahead of schedule. Has VDOT ever even finished on schedule? Believe me people here are not any smarter. The problem is the system in VDOT is broken, if not down right corrupt.

Some might argue that it's Virginia's General Assembly that is broken for its failure to fund VDOT with taxes or whatever it takes.

There are several privately built highways in Virginia - two I can think of are Pocahontas Pkwy in Metro Richmond and a Dulles Road in Norva. Bids are out to private companies for construction of a new Interstate-type highway to run parallel to US 460 from Suffolk to Petersburg.

I see nothing wrong with adding video horse-race betting machines to established OTB's and at Colonial Downs in order to raise some funding for VDOT. But I hope the Virginia Senate and Governor Kaine prevail in the General Assembly.

Ah, this old chestnut. If these networks were truly left-leaning, they'd have called out the Bush Regime's BS instead of rolling over. But they haven't.

Your right. To me the repulicans between 80% and 95% have Fox news. No one can deny that. MSNBC is kind of democratic, but the try as hard as they can to stay neutral. Fox doesn't try as hard to see every point of view. CNN on the other hand is conservetive and kind of swings from Dem to Rep. The CBS is democratic, NBC is neutral, and ABC is republican, but all to try to stay a little bit neutral. I'm a democrate and that's how I see it. The only thing I agree with Bush about is immigration.

No, because if they're built in Richmond, they'll be giant crime magnets. If built in Short Pump, the only crime would be not winning at the slot machines.

If it's a crime to have old, outdated casinos after a few years of being built, then there's that too. They always seem old and sometimes can get very tacky, very fast. There's a reason Las Vegas is the only city its size with a CSI program!
