Mayor Jones delivered his annual State of The City report last night.

Here is a summation of his speech from today's RTD:

http://www2.timesdis...of--ar-1654202/

OK..... well I guess I'm happy and proud about his statement for "big plans" for the riverfront and Shockoe, but I'm somewhat more than dismayed at the industrial park idea..... as long as it's away from downtown and the interstates (where people can drive by and see them and judge the city on it <_< ), I guess it will do fine..... but still, now his idea to pull away in the election should be to promise action (otherwise other candidates might as well use this slowness in progress against him).....

Hundreds gathered in Capitol Square yesterday to protest a very intrusive and unpopular bill before the state legislature.

Here's an up-dated story from, of all places, the Times Dispatch entertainment sibling called Richmiond dot com about the embarrassing goings on in the State Capitol:

I never would have guessed!!

BREAK POINT MEDIA GROUP owns Downtown Short Pump, the Far West End's news and development website, but now, they are also making a new website, MIDLOTHIAN RVA!! :w00t:

It will serve as a sister site to DTSP, and is hiring writers. Sadly, I can't tackle development news for Chesterfield, because I live in Glen Allen  but still, the website has a really fresh and modern look. It's coming soon, so get excited Richmond!

Richmond is sometimes described as a "hotbed of SOCIAL rest" but that is changing.

Here are pictures of Capital and State police forcibly removing (and arresting) people who were vociferably objecting to their rights being trampled.

From RVANews:

Yeah... while I was cruising around downtown this afternoon to the Coliseum to the Courtside Richmond thing, I saw a huge line of protesters, who from what one would think were protesting the abortion case.... there were probably like 100 or 200 people marching through the streets of downtown.... on another note, Richmond seemed quite alive today, as not only the protesters, but also just people out and about on VCU's campus, and of course that Courtside Richmond and the general area around the Coliseum was teeming with people for the tournament games in the afternoon. Funny thing actually, while I was there (at Courtside Richmond) I saw like 20 or 25 people with signs that were begging tickets for VCU's semifinal game.... I felt kinda bad... see this is why we need a new coliseum! More seating capacity! I'm pretty sure We can use this as another reason to replace the Coliseum... :silly:

This is RVA-Is-The-Best, your CAA Tournament reporter (wannabe)

It's rumored that Media General may divest itself of print operations.

If anyone thinks the Richmond Times Dispatch editorial policy and its slant on political news coverage isn't conservative enough, just you wait. :shok:

From the current Style Weekly:

The RTD isn't conservative at all! Perhaps if the RTD is sold to this "right winger," real, objective news will actually be printed in the RTD for a change.

Norwood resigned today and a new Richmond Chief of Police was immediately named.  He is Ray J. Tarasovic.

Many believe that Norwood and Mayor Jones were not in accord on many matters.  Norwood was one of three applicants interviewed by officials in Raleigh to assume the role of Chief of that city's police force but he was not the finalist.

There are reports that Los Angeles prosecutors were not happy with Norwood's handling of Virginia native Chris Brown's parole activities in Richmond after the singer's arrest in LA on assault charges.

Gray just released a statement to the effect of conceding to Stoney.

In the most respectful way possible, she served Council in the way she thought best, but honestly I'm glad and relieved she won't be anywhere near city government anymore. We need forward-minded movement and growth.

OK - I am exhaling now. Huge exhale. I am super relieved - and RVA-Is-The-Best - I agree with you 100%. We most definitely need forward-minded movement and growth. Progressive thinking - not regressive thinking. There may just be a future for Richmond after all!

Just got an alert on my phone from the RTD saying that Katherine Jordan has won Kim grays seat on city council and that reva trammel beat out Amy wentz to retain her seat. I’m beginning to wonder if there is anyone that can or will ever beat trammel. I know she has served on council in the 90s as well I have heard. Still not sure who has won Chris Hilbert’s seat yet unless I missed who won that one.

Her and Gray spent a lot of time getting in peoples' faces during curbside voting in the 8th district so unfortunately voter intimidation was a factor.  Polling officials never resolved despite other candidates constantly reporting it.
