Columbia's "next big thing"

So what will Columbia's "next big thing" be? I'm thinking things along the line of the Kline Steel project, CanalSide, Bull Street project, Meridian, First Citizens, etc.

As much as I'd love to see another highrise or building complex development, I'd like to see Columbia attract a major annual event open to the public (other than college football) which would bring high profile faces (besides politicians) to the state. And I'm not really thinking of a music or arts festival, although continuing to grow those would be great as well.

The only thing I could really think of in this regard is something sports-related. The city gets some events of this nature every now and again, but nothing really consistent.

I'm going to go with a mixed-use high rise on this one.

I'd love to see something like one poster mentioned earlier about creating a DT beach from one of the old quarries. That would be awesome!

I think a mixed use mid-rise could be next. They did say that there would be alot of cool things happening this year....

That, along with the planned new "front lawn" for the city, would most certainly put Columbia in the spotlight.

I voted for a mixed use high rise. But I would love for columbia to be the first city in s.c. to be home to a syndicated show. Something like CNN in atlanta.
