Coeur d'Alene's western neighbor Post Falls continues to be one of the fastest growing cities in the Northwest:

As it stands now, the city has over 24,000 residents. That number is expected to swell to over 68,000 by 2028. If Post Falls annexes adjacent land, the city might have up to 98,000 residents by 2028. (population estimates courtesy of J.P. Stravens Planners and taken from Cd'A Press article 1/16/07)

Nearby Hayden (north of Coeur d'Alene) is estimated to have over 13,000 residents. Rathdrum is growing as fast as Post Falls and currently has over 7,000 residents. Coeur d'Alene's population is around 44,000. Coeur d'Alene's population will max out between 55,000-60,000 residents and Post Falls will pass it as the largest city in North Idaho. I haven't heard any estimates as to when this will happen, but I'm guessing around 2018-2020. As it stands now, the population of Kootenai County will be 167,000 by 2010 according to estimates.
