Film production in SBC

Looks like Shreveport is making its imprint in the minds of writers in Hollywood. A recent episode of "Heroes" featured a list of special people unlocked by genetics professor Mohinder Suresh (actor Sendhil Ramamurthy) in the Nov. 20 episode of the series,

That's pretty funny I agree. I recorded Heroes on my DVR and was watching it Tuesday and caught that. I rewound it and paused it! There it was Shreveport LA. I thought it was great! You know I tend to watch reruns of King of Queens and have seen two episodes where they mentioned Shreveport. I have even heard Shreveport mentioned twice on Quantum Leap. I have noticed that we seem to come up a lot. Why? I don't know.

I saw one episode of King of Queens where Arthur mentioned one of the places he'd worked in his lifetime was in Shreveport.

Okay, guys, check this out. I wanted to post a photo this guy has looking out through high-rise office windows in downtown Shreveport, but he's got it set where you can't link to his photos individually. That said, this guy has an AWESOME collection of such photos, and they can be found here.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/charlesrapp/s...57594343767282/

Judging by the names of his photo sets, he appears to be involved in the movie industry. He has sets named "Homeland Security," which is the name of a movie that just wrapped filming here, "Amsterdam Hotel," "Raymus' Basement," etc. I'm betting these photo sets have a lot to do with the movie Homeland Security. In the "Amsterdam Hotel" set he has photos of the downtown YMCA building and the Remington Suite Hotel. My guess is that it'll be called the 'Amsterdam Hotel' in the movie. I guess we'll get to find out once the movie is released to theaters next year.

If he's with Millennium Films, some of this stuff could be related to Jessica Simpson's movie, Blonde Ambition, as well since they're making it appear to have been shot in New York City while it's actually being shot fully in Shreveport.

Anyway, check out the link above. Very impressive stuff! This guy has been taking photos all over the region, from Shreveport Regional Airport, to Shreveport Downtown Airport, to downtown Shreveport, and all the way over to my neck of the woods at Camp Minden.

Oh, Craig, you will see LOTS of Shreveport in that movie. Why? Because not only was it filmed here, it's SET here. That's right, from what the media has reported about this movie, it's not supposed to be Shreveport doubling for anyone... just Shreveport being Shreveport for all to see. :) I'm very proud of that and can't wait to see the movie!

Very cool! Regarding the "Amsterdam Hotel" - Harold & Kumar Go to Amsterdam is scheduled to film in Shreveport. The YMCA building could be a potential double for the Amsterdam Hotel in that movie.

You know, this is all great, but I swear our state is so damned backward! Look at all the casino industry has done for our state over the last decade and look at how highly that industry is taxed! Then Hollywood comes to the state and Louisiana is kissing butt!?!?! What the... ?

Don't get me wrong, I think the tax breaks for the film industry are awesome, but damn it, Louisiana... think about one of your biggest industries (casinos) and what they've done for your cities. Then think about what MORE they can do for your cities!!

The Year Without a Santa Claus, a made-for-TV movie filmed in Shreveport and Natchitoches back in the Summer, will premiere on NBC on December 11 at 8:00 pm Central.

Here's a website with more information about this movie and it's big-name lineup (which is awesome for a made-for-TV movie!)

http://www.nbc.com/The_Year_Without_A_Santa_Claus/

There's a short clip on this website (which I hope is the cheesiest part of the movie) and there is a photo gallery right below that.

I remember reading an article that said the filmmakers for The Year Without A Santa Claus may name Natchitoches by name in the movie. They movie is set in a small southern town.

Robert DeNiro film to be shot in Shreveport!

Looks like this film was originally to be called New Orleans, and shot in New Orleans; but now it's supposed to be called Microwave Park and be made at least partially in Shreveport. The following article says it's still unclear as to whether or not the film has moved here entirely or will be split between New Orleans and Shreveport.

The film is currently in pre-production in Shreveport.

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d...NGNEWS/61201010

The article also mentions that Millennium was going to film 4 movies consecutively in Shreveport. This would be the fourth of the Millennium films. I certainly hope that, after these four films, Millennium will continue to work with and in Shreveport on future projects.

A recent article mentioned that at least a dozen new films would be shot in Shreveport in 2007 (that's at least ONE film per month, friends.) That's huge, and I hope it pans out.

It just keeps rolling in! I have no doubt Millennium Films will continue to shoot in Shreveport. The industry is there to stay. I would like to see more infrastructure built though... such as more soundstages and post-production facilities.

Edit: http://www.imdb.com/List

IMDB shows several projects scheduled for Shreveport in 2007 that I have yet to see reported by the local news:

Black Water Transit

Deadly Exchange

Downloading Nancy

The Six Month Rule

Ruffian (TV)

Some of these I'm sure are of the "least 12 productions" scheduled for next year. There any many details the productions available though.

Those all sound new to me, except Ruffian. I'm not sure why they have it on that list because it was filmed here last year.

I agree, I think the industry is here to stay... but only if we can properly support them. We do have to build upon our infrastructure, but I do believe if they say "jump," the local partners involved in StageWorks and the post-production facility under development will say "how high?!"

Where is the post-production facility planned? Maybe I read about it in one of the many articles... seem to have forgotten.

Here is a Shreveport Times headline story from today that Robert De Niro & 50 Cent will making 'Microwave Park' here in Shreveport! They say it will also be shot in New Orleans. This another film being produced by Millennium Films. They must really like it here. This is their fourth movie here.

Yep, they seem to love it here. I hope the industry continues to fluorish in NWLA and SBC in general.

From today's Shreveport Times, a very good list showing the films made in Shreveport (and a couple in Natchitoches) in 2005 and 2006, as well as FOUR films expected to begin production in Shreveport in January alone!! Wow! That means that Samuel L. Jackson, DeNiro, 50 Cent and the guys who play Harold & Kumar will all be here filming around the same time. Nice! :)

Even with some of these major films, The Guardian is FAR ahead of the pack at $90 million in production budget!

I'm sure I'll be watching the Harold & Kumar sequel. The original was hilarious. It'll be interesting to try to spot different locales in the movie.

Have any of you watched some of the movies shot here and recognized anything?

I saw The Guardian and saw lots of recognizable spots, like Barksdale AFB, Camp Minden, the old James Burton's bar downtown, and so on.

I also recognized lots of local sites in Roadhouse II, but that movie was the epitome of lame and cheesy.

In The Initiation of Sarah I saw lots of the South Highlands area.

I believe these are all that have been released so far. On December 11, The Year Without a Santa comes on NBC. I'll have to catch that one as well.

And yeah, Harold & Kumar was awesome, I'm ready for the sequel! :)

Locals witness everyday life of stars in Shreveport:

http://www.shreveporttimes.com/apps/pbcs.d.../612100307/1004

Yeah I read that. Very nice. A friend of mine was telling me today that Luke Wilson was drunk this weekend at one of the nightclubs she frequents. She said he was a lot of fun, but he had two police officers as body guards. Most of the stars don't have body guards with them when they're out and about around here.

A trailer for Homeland Security has been posted on YouTube. Since this movie was actually set in Shreveport, you see a LOT of the city and they don't try to hide it or pass it off as some other place! :)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8C_dYHxQ8PA

I'm sure this has been posted already, but here's a trailer for Sandra Bullock's Premonition, filmed here last year. This film opens in theaters in March!

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dtV_kml1oVg

Both of these look like good movies! Homeland Security appeals to my love for comedies. and Premonition for suspense.

Another suspense film to be made here, The Cleaner, starring Samuel L. Jackson. It should start filming within the month, at about the same time as the DeNiro/50 Cent film, Microwave Park.
