All I know is we both want Cromwell, Hartford, and CT in general to do well. :)

The proposed Lowe's was actually not even in a "commercial" district. The building would have been in the backyard of about 20 houses on Coles road and another 10-15 houses on Christian Hill Road (who already have a backyard view of the hotel and parking garage). I think it is smart of a town to not allow a big-box store to takeover the backyards of people in the name of lowering the tax base for the rest of the citizens. This same issue arose with the Wal-Mart in Cromwell which destroyed Kirby Drive. Obviously this is the problem when commercial districts and residential distrcits meet-up but small-scale commercial would seem to make more sense for an area that is someone's backyard. Cromwell has plenty of other places that are commercial and are vacant to build a big-box store, there is no need to place it down in the middle of a residential neighborhood. As it is, 372 is a model of sprawl, and its about time the town laid down some guidelines to prevent it from getting more out-of-hand than it already is...not to mention the presence of a Lowe's and Home Depot within about a 3 mile radius of the proposed location in Cromwell.
