METRORail probably has 60 collisions now. But finally some good news has come about the collision rate being lowered. Another thing, METRORail had 6 collisions in DT so far.

Rail praised for lowering collision rate

Despite two new incidents on Main Street line

Though Metro reported Wednesday two new incidents on its Main Street light rail line, its chairman praised the authority for lowering the collision rate.

A pedestrian who police say was intoxicated walked into a MetroRail train Tuesday night at Main Street Square.

That's the 60th incident on the rail line that the Metropolitan Transit Authority must report to the state, which sets uniform standards for crash statistics.

Metro police said Richard Sopher, 36, address unknown, stumbled into the rear end of a northbound train about 10:50 p.m.

He suffered minor injuries and was taken to Ben Taub Hospital. Sopher is the fourth pedestrian struck by a train since the Main Street line was completed in October.
