A group of concerned library users have formed a new non-profit called the Providence Community Library (PCL). The PCL is asking the city to give them the money allocated to operate the libary branches and they will keep all nine branches open with at least the same level of service.

Can someone explain this issue to me in simple terms? I thought this was fixed a year or two ago with some big summit of stakeholders, a mediation, and a report with suggestions. Why are we back here again?

City, group work on transfer of libraries. urrently, Providence Public Library, a long-established nonprofit agency, runs the nine branches and the main downtown library with money from the city and the state.
