NC Radio Markets

10 posts in this topic

I would like to know what kind of radio stations people listen to throughout NC. Also, how many people listen to stations outside their market? What is the most distant FM station you have received? In the Triad where I live, I tend to listen to our local stations, and the stations in three other markets, Raleigh-Durham, Roanoke, and Charlotte. Once in a while, in the mornings if the weather is right I can pick up WGNI 102.7 out of Wilmington, 200 miles away! Here are some of the stations I listen to regualary. As you can see, I have weird taste in music. Even since subscribing to XM, I still tune into these stations quite often.

WSMW 98.7 (everything)- Greensboro

WKRR 92.3 - 9 (Classic Rock)Greensboro/Asheboro

WKZL 107.5 (Top 40) Greensboro/Winston-Salem

WEND 106.5 (Alternative) Salisbury/Charlotte

WDCG 105.1 (Top 40) Raleigh-Durham

WZTK 101.1 (News-Talk) Burlington

WBBB 96.1 (Rock) Raleigh

WROV 96.3 (Classic Rock) Roanoke

WSLQ 99.1 (Adult Contemporary) Roanoke

WLNK 107.9 (Pop/A.C.) Charlotte

WRVA 100.7 (Mix) Rocky Mount

WRAL 101.5 (Mix) Raleigh

WBRF 98.1 (Classic & New Country) Galax

I used to listen to 107.5 WKZL or 107.9 WLNK, but I now listen exclusively to SIRIUS satellite radio!

WKNC (indy), WXYC (indy), WUNC (NPR) are all good Triangle stations.

An article came out maybe a couple of weeks ago about the triangle music scene and the top stations were those geared toward teens to thirty somethings in the urban/crossover demographic. k97.5 WQOK most noticably had the greatest market share.

I live in Raleigh, but always listen to Rock 92.3 out of the Triad.

I found that they stream their morning show, so I'm listening to it now!

Aside from that, 96.1 for music, 850 the buzz for sports talk.
