[Downtown - SouthWest] Photo Tour

39 posts in this topic

Hey guys - I was back in Hartford this morning and had a quick hour to kill from 10am to 11am, so I got on my horse and trekked around the Downtown SouthWest area. For the purposes of this thread, I'm defining the area as roughly Bushnell Park east to State House Square.

I am offering a taste of what's to come with these 4 photos, as I managed to snap 52 photos on my little one hour tour (I will be posting the rest of the photos periodically over the next couple hours/days). Hope you enjoy. :)

The new HCC entrance looks pretty cool.

I don't like the MSG Styled lettering and purple. Other than that's it is pretty cool.

Thanks, probably 2 of the better pictures I've ever taken. I'm no Garris or beerbeer, but I'm starting to learn "framing" and other techniques that help to increase the quality.

Sage Allen should still be decent when it's done. I'm used to seeing it the old way when it was really crappy so it is kinda hard for me to be too upset over the progress so far.

The new streetscape created by the Hartford 21 project (There were actually quite a few people walking on the sidewalk, but I get a little uncomfortable taking peoples' pictures so I waited for everyone to clear out - yes, I'm shy. ;) )

I can't wait until they fill that retail space along Trumbull. That should really liven things up even more.

Once the trees grow larger that is going to be a really nice tree lined street. Now we need some sit down eateries with tables on the sidewalk.

This photo really makes me think about the potential for all these surface lots in the foreground to be developed if the Hartford Civic Center is torn down.

Is Sweet Janes a bar?

It's a restuarant with 2 (or 3) floors, live music, and a bar. I've heard they serve really good cocktails.

I'm planning on heading to the observation deck asap. Last Monday I was in the Travelers Tower but the security guard informed me that I needed to call ahead in order to be taken to the observation deck (a guide has to escort you). I'll be in Hartford next Tuesday, if I have the time I'll certainly take some pics from the observation deck.

It used to be Lord Jim's, which was a bar upstairs and a Blues type music joint downstairs...

Here are a couple more photos in and around Bushnell Park. I'll certainly take more in the future. Maybe even devote one thread to the park and its surroundings.
