Houston: Photo of the Day

And THANK YOU for doing so. Houston has one of the most beautiful and unique skylines in the United States. I never tire of looking at pictures of her skylines!

I seem to be the only one who adds to this. Here are more from the internet.

You'd think there would be so many people adding to this thread. Having not been there in a few years myself, and having zero of my own pics from there, I must say I have nothing personal to add to the collection, but what you and others have posted have been amazing.

I especially like the photo showing the freeway stack in the foreground with the skyline in the background, the photo with the neighborhood made up of homes and canals (WOW!!!) and the airplane photo! Those are all awesome!!

And finally Greenway Plaza in southwest Houston

more info.

That should do for today. This thread appears to have become the "Greens posting pictures of Houston thread." I will have more of my own to add when I go back home next week and can explore the city again.

Hey SBC. Thanks for the nice conributions. I had never seen that nightime pic before. I agree, where is Green's help ? Houston's the right place to take pics of some serious urban scenery.

Keep em' rollin' Greens. Houston is one colossal place. Looking for something other than "huge". I like all the multiple skylines in H-Town.

I never knew there was a small skyline near the Airport at I-45 & Beltway.

It's hard to imagine before the Great Hurricane in 1901 ? That Galveston was the south's version of Manhattan. I could only imagine what Galveston would look like today with all of Houston's skyscrapers !

Here are some shots by KCGridlock on SSP.

1) Texas Med. Center and Downtown from Reliant.

2) Same shot at night.

3) A great shot of the Gulf Freeway as it crosses the Eastex Freeway downtown. Old Chinatown is on the far right across the freeway from DT. It has been losing status lately to the new Chinatown that has developed on Beechnut St.

4) Greenway Plaza with Texas Med. Center in the background.

5) Downtown. If I am not mistaken, the building on the far left was inspired by the pyramids in the Yucatan.

6) Close up of downtown.

7) Downtown again from the east.

8) Main street leading from Buffalo Bayou to the TMC.

9) San Jacinto Monument. Actually taller than the Washington Monument in DC.

IMG_2464_sized.jpg

10) Baytown Bridge, entrance to the Port of Houston.

IMG_2510_sized.jpg

11) From boats to trucks and from there who knows? Maybe Denver?

IMG_2531_sized.jpg

12) The Kemah Boardwalk, playground for local suburbanites and tourists visiting the Space Center.

IMG_2566_sized.jpg

13) Lower Montrose and the Museum District. This area isn't really well known outside of Houston but is a pretty cool area with lots of artists and clubs.

IMG_2689_sized.jpg

14) Uptown not including the Williams Tower.

That is enough of this. I will post some Galveston pictures next.
