Great to see the historic hotel being revitalized. I saw a web site with pics of this building before and was horrified by the damage inside.

So now it's going to be an independent hotel instead of a member of the Marriott chain?

edit: it appears to be a Hilton hotel according to the same group named in the other thread.

I'm not sure what the new hotel will be. It might be a Hilton, it might be anything. The deal is not finalized yet. The only reason workers are in there now is that the building must be cleaned out & all the hazardous materials removed if it will be demolished or renovated. What I read the other day says that the final deal to get this renovated is about 1.5-2 weeks away. Detroit cannot let this project slip through its fingers. It is psychologically important to the downtown revival. The mayor realizes this as well, and he will do anything & everything in his power to get this building renovated.
