It's competition, not really a threat. The casinos, and Utopia when it's built, attract a lot of conventions to Southeastern CT. They have that all in one kind of stuff Providence does not have. Hotel, convention center, entertainment, dining all under one roof. The power block would stand to change that a little. I'm no expert in the hospitality industry so I don't know the real effects of all the competition other than increased quality of service...

They are going to have a fun time in foxboro, fixing the roads because it is already hell now getting down that road, even when they convert it over to 3 lanes, with more attractions in that one area, they are going to have to be cutting back the sidewalks and making those roads a lot bigger... I see that being a huge problem over there, or they will have to put a highway exit right at the stadium and the new "patriot's place"

Will the propsed Patriots' Place in Foxboro hurt hotel, entertainment and meeting space venues in Downtown Providence? Patriots' Place is a $ 300 million mega entertainment complex planned for land adjacent to Foxboro Stadium.

With part of my income coming from someone who has highly marketable skills in the hospitality industry, I'm at least personally, not concerned about the crunch in quality hospitality industry workers. The more demand there is for his skills, the better for me.

Are you saying that your income would go up as quality workers decrease?

that road is only a moderate problem for about 30 days a year

most days its the indy 500 raceway

providence in and of itself is all in one. the casinos and utopia have to be because there's nothing else in SE CT. so when the casinos were built, they needed their own restaurants and hotels in order to even attract visitors to begin with. providence has tons of hotels and restaurants all within walking distance of the convention center and the dunk, not to mention nightlife and cultural stuff.

I agree. With gas at over $3.00 a gallon, why would someone drive to a place where its' just Patriots Place, the stadium, and not much else? Providence has archectiture, culture, great food, arts, and more. Bob Kraft can keep his Patriots Place!

there's going to be a mega-store for Bass in there right?

maybe a couple hotels, some retail, some restaurant & nightlife, etc

they do have a nice transportation advantage if they ever opened up the foxboro T stop to normal commutes

you have to remember that people from all over new england travel to foxoboro for 2 preseason, 8 reg season, and 1-3 post season patriots games each year, while also attending concerts, possbile future college football bowl game, revolution games, a few carnivals, fairs, festivals, etc.

bobby k's idea is to make it more of a year-round destination so that he can maximize profits for his land, time, and money... pretty reasonable if ur in business to make money... which is a pretty good reason to be in it! haha

Yeah, Bass Pro is planned for there. And there's a Cabela's planned for down the road near the 495 ramps. Personally, I like the idea of adding restaurants & retail at the stadium. There's not much to walk to around there, and that area is jumping on game days.

yep, good point,

bobby k's idea isnt new

look at the sox

more revenue comes from pushing the vendors away from the stadium and adding permanent retail/dining/nightlife destinations adjacent to fenway like from along yawkey way

very smart business decision, allows you to control liabilities, quality, and price

I was at Gillette Sunday where we were tailgating in front of the spanking new Circuit City box. They can't open the regular stores on Sundays, the way its configured it would be a total disaster. I'm looking around thinking "out of everyone living within 100 miles of this place, who the hell is going to shop at Bass Pro Shops?!"
