PNC's impact on the local area?

Curious how the Pittsburgh based PNC has been doing in metro DC since the Riggs buyout, I have heard that within the city things couldn't be better but in the very wealthy suburbs of northern Virginia and Maryland PNC is virtually unknown and worse all the mega promotions they are doing are going to waste since local ad space covers the metro not just the city ($ for $ they are falling on more deaf surburban ears then Georgetown and city residents).

I have heard some rumors that PNC is close to going after SunTrust, an almost natural fit for the NE and Mid-West bank, the only area of overage would be DC but even there PNC has a lock on the city while SunTrust I am told is strong though not the strongest in the wealthy burbs.
