The River Market

Recommended Posts

New hotel, Hilton Garden Inn, coming to downtown at 4th and Cumberland. It will be located where the Rock Street Loft are now. The parking lot will become the hotel and the current building will become the parking lot for the hotel. It will be seven stories and have 135 rooms, a bar and restaurant. Scheduled to be completed by March 2016. Hilton and Marriott are taking over downtown. Hilton Homewood Suites will be about a block over where the MacArthur Commons will be. Here's a link below.

The new hotel's parking lot is going where the strip center is (Rock Street Shops) not the Loft building.

Unbelievable…and still no aLoft.  Regardless, they must all be doing well for the market to demand more rooms.  I would have preferred to see one major "full service" hotel added in lieu of at least 3-4 of these.

There is suppose to be a new club coming to the River Market. It is to be located where LaHarpe's Furniture is now. The club will be called Shotz. It will be there second location, the first in Fayetteville. Their main drinks to serve are shots in ice made shot glasses. We definitely need more downtown for nightlife.

Not happening...A familiar River Market developer doesn't feel there needs to be bars or lounges in the area and used political sway to keep Stir and Shotz out of the La Harpe building.

Oh wow. That's a shock. NOT! That would only have given us another choice for nightlife. What about all the bars and restaurants already down there? How many different places are there? Why would you not want something like this to come here. People already complain about not having many choices on places to go. Geez. See, this is one reason people will not have Little Rock host big events. Not enough for the city folks to do.

Boulevard Bread is extending its hours to 7 pm on weekdays and 8 pm on Fri, & Sat. nights along with being open on Sundays. This is good news because it has been hard to find something to eat on Sundays in the downtown area. It would be nice if a 24 hour diner would open up.

The Marriot (former Peabody) is opening up a Starbucks.

Is this an image of "what might have been" or of "what still might be"?

http://www.oxleyartgraphics.com/LRRiverMarket-MTMap.html

The above link shows a conceptual rendering of the River Market District as envisioned by Moses Tucker in 2007. Some of the buildings are now reality, such as the Arcade, the River Market Tower, and a hotel at the NE corner of 3rd and River Market - a Residence Inn, although the image clearly indicates the desire was for an Aloft.

The most interesting part of the image involves the block where the Arkla building once stood. The rendering shows three modern-looking multi-story buildings, the tallest of which is a 16 story tower. Obviously, part of this concept has changed with the announcement of MacArthur Commons. A hotel has been announced for the northern half of the block, but there has been no official announcement or rendering.

Is it possible that Moses Tucker still plans a multi-use tower with the hotel as only one component, or has the weakened economy taken it's toll on the tower plans?

You bring up a very good point that there have been no renderings for the hotel.  The condo market is soft downtown now so what else would go into a tower?  Office space?  Could shift some offices from Main St. to a possible tower to free up space for the tech park.

Kilwins Chocolate, Fudge and Ice Cream Shop will be opening at 415 President Clinton Avenue according to the signs in the windows.  The shop is listed on the Kilwins website, too.

Starbucks will apparently be opening a location inside the Courtyard By Marriott according to the signs on the windows of the CbM.

The Boscos in Nashville closed a couple of weeks ago so it may be a company thing.  The restaurant scene in the Rivermarket is getting intense and some of the restaurants there will have to adapt to be able to keep up.

I always thought the space at Boscos in the RiverMarket was better than the food. It would make a great location for a Big Orange.
