I agree. The statehouse is still slightly dominated by rural politics. I think that is slowly starting to change to a more urban friendly environment.

I think it is slowly changing as well, and I mean slowly. Believe it or not, I think one of the departments in which this is evident is the DOT. Ironically, it is our secondary/rural roads that are in the worst shape in the state. Most of our heavily traveled major highways are in pretty good shape, although there is still room for improvement. I'll know we're turning a corner for sure when the annexation laws become a bit more liberal and/or legislation is passed making it easier for cities to consolidate with their counties.

True. The difference is that now at least they are being proposed and considered. That means our leaders are forced to think about it, if only for a second. Sloooowwwwwly.
