M II A II R II K, yep its very different from most Chinatown well its actually one of the oldest there is in the west technically it was the oldest Chinatown but it was burnt down twice so its the 2nd oldest in the west (meaning Canada & The US). The first Chinese settled in Hawaii in 1789 about 40 years before the first Chinese migrated and settled in the westcoast. Anyhow this Chinatown is basically one of the originals and among the first in the west i think only Mexico has a longer Chinese history than Hawaii in North America and Louisiana when it comes to the first arrival of Filipinos. BTW they are not the only ethnic group that started off in Hawaii first before moving on to the westcoast....Koreans, Japanese, Okinawans, etc etc also settled in Hawaii first then later moved on.
