That was awesome :w00t: I want to try that out. They have mellowed out versions of those at the water park.

 Yeah, don't we all! :D

I thought it was cool because you can see the guys in the life raft in the water, the fake boat, everything... and in the movie it looks like it's really out in the middle of the ocean. But inr eality, it's all done right there in the tank. THAT is cool... movie magic is awesome.

Well, Deja Vu opened in theaters yesterday, and I'm planning on seeing it sometime this weekend...hopefully. From the reviews I've read, the movie looks like a good one!

I wasn't aware it had already started, but that's cool. I'm not sure if I'll see it this weekend, but I will soon. I've been wanting to see it as well.

Robert DeNiro film to be shot in Shreveport!

Looks like this film was originally to be called New Orleans, and shot in New Orleans; but now it's supposed to be called Microwave Park and be made at least partially in Shreveport. The following article says it's still unclear as to whether or not the film has moved here entirely or will be split between New Orleans and Shreveport.

The film is currently in pre-production in Shreveport.

The article also mentions that Millennium was going to film 4 movies consecutively in Shreveport. This would be the fourth of the Millennium films. I certainly hope that, after these four films, Millennium will continue to work with and in Shreveport on future projects.

A recent article mentioned that at least a dozen new films would be shot in Shreveport in 2007 (that's at least ONE film per month, friends.) That's huge, and I hope it pans out.

12??? In one year??? daaaaaaang. That's amazing. I think, literally, Memphis has one, maybe 2. And that's with the "incentives" the Tennessee legislature passed this year.

Channel 4 had a spot on last night about a horror flick filming in Lacombe called "Lost Ranch" or something like that. Anyway, it's a big deal for New Orleans and the state because it is the first of 15 to 20 movies filmed with the LIFT studio. Something like a $200,000,000 impact on the local economy since LIFT is also building a soundstage in New Orleans. Hollywood South continues to get stronger it seems.

I'll have to try and find an official count for 2006, but we had somewhere from 5-10 this year.

This is awesome! The news of films and soundstages just keeps flowing in from all over the state. Even small towns like Minden and Natchitoches have gotten in on it... it's excellent for the state and the individual metros the movies are being filmed in/ And it's great to see New Orleans' film industry getting back up there!!

From today's Shreveport Times, a very good list showing the films made in Shreveport (and a couple in Natchitoches) in 2005 and 2006, as well as a FOUR films expected to begin production in Shreveport in January alone!! Wow! That means that Samuel L. Jackson, DeNiro, 50 Cent and the guys who play Harold & Kumar will all be here filming around the same time. Nice! :)

Even with some of these major films, The Guardian is FAR ahead of the pack at $90 million in production budget!

Soulja Slim...

Interesting name.

;)

But I won't speak ill of the dead. It's a shame so many young men have to die violently.

New Orleans dudes are cut from a different cloth. Growing up in the 'hood, if you are fortunate to make it past 21, there's a lot for you to be thankful for, and the chances of you getting knocked off are tripled if you're deep into the street life. The thing about Soulja Slim is before his own demise, he was wanted for another murder elsewhere. Then he robbed some dude in a MS club, before that he got into an altercation with another guy at a gas station, all of this was back in the mid-90's. Just because a neighborhood is titled Swan Lake/Meadowview, Cedar Grove or Magnolia Projects, doesn't mean anything. 9 times out of 10, neighborhoods with peaceful names turn out to be the worst of the worst. If you're interested, view the following link:

Samuel L. Jackson will be on Letterman this Friday night. According to an attorney from Lafayatte who was in the audience for the taping of the show, Jackson praised Shreveport-Bossier and spoke more about the city than his new movie, Black Snake Moan, which he was on the show to plug. The attorney mentioned Jackson gave great exposure to Shreveport-Bossier and Louisiana in general.

The Lafayette attorney is quoted in the article as having said, "I think all Shreveport residents would enjoy watching it and seeing the positive press given to Louisiana and Shreveport.

I completely forgot about Letterman on Friday, as I was actually at the movie theater. Does anyone know if a video of the Letterman segment is on the internet somewhere?

Though when I was at the movies I finally saw the preview for Mr. Brooks, which was filmed in Shreveport. However, before I even knew which film it was, I immediately recognized Shreveport's American Tower in one of the scenes, so it looks like Shreveport will get some great exposure in that film. Brian, do you know if Mr. Brooks is actually set in Shreveport, rather than just filmed there?

And BTW, I'm much more of a Letterman man myself. :D Though my two favorite late night talk show hosts are the two guys that come on after Letterman and Leno, Conan O'Brian and Craig Ferguson. Both of them are just genuinely funny and entertaining. I'll probably be switching to The Tonight Show when Conan takes over for Leno in '09.

Actually I think (don't quote me, because I'm not certain) that Mr. Brooks is actually set in Portland, OR, where it was originally to be filmed. But after he filmed The Guardian here, he immediately changed the filming location for Mr. Brooks. I think he kept the setting as Oregon, though, from what I've seen and heard. Homeland Security, which hopefully will be out later this year, is so far the first major film to be set here. That's a huge milestone for Shreveport, so no doubt I'll be plugging that movie as its release nears. :D

Also keep in mind that Premonition, starrting Sandra Bullock, opens in theaters either next week or the week after. It was also filmed here.

The Letterman segment was fairly short, but he did say a couple good things about Shreveport. Of course you know it made my head swell up... it's not often we actually get a positive review in the public light, and it's certainly not every day that a celebrity even mentions us on national television. But he called Shreveport "Vegas South" and mentioned the high-rise casino hotels and such. He also told where he's living while he's living here, which REALLY isn't a bright move. That subdivision is actually very easy for the public to get into, because they have a semi-public country club located there. He is living on the 18th hole at Stonebridge in north Bossier.

Anyway, I'd bet you could purchase a video from CBS of that show, but as far as finding it online, I haven't come up with anything yet. I scoured YouTube for it last night, but it isn't on there.

Wow, after I browsed away from Urban Planet just a couple of minutes ago, I went to the Shreveport Times website. Much to my surprise, I found a "breaking news" article that Millennium Films has almost committed to filming at least three more movies in Shreveport once Samuel L. Jackson's 'Cleaner' wraps! They said it's not 100% official yet, but it looks like it will be.

It looks like Queen Latifah's Mad Money will be the first one, followed by My Beautiful Mistake and The Poison Rose over the next couple of months. This will mean that, by April, Millennium will have worked on at least 5 features in Shreveport-Bossier for 2007, not counting the other production companies that are currently filming here right now.

Another post-Katrina tevelision series set and filmed in New Orleans to start filming soon:

Another post-K series pilot

Cameras are ready to roll on Fox's N.O. cop drama 'K-ville'

More Info

Very cool! This could get REALLY interesting with FOX, because they've been scouting Shreveport-Bossier as a possibility for a future season of Prison Break. How cool would it be if all three of Louisiana's major cities could each land a FOX series?

Mo movie noos.... ;)

Katie Holmes will join Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton in Mad Money, to be filmed in Shreveport-Bossier.

Also, Denzel Washington is scouting rural Shreveport-Bossier, most notably the towns of Mansfield and Grand Cane, for a movie called The Great Debaters. The movie is based on a 1930s-era debate team from Wiley College in Marshall, TX, which is located about 30 miles west of Shreveport. In my opinion this is the most logical area in which to film a movie based in Marshall, TX, since that town has become a bedroom community to Shreveport-Bossier over the past decade.

Some more New Orleans movie news...

Filming of "The Curious Case of Benjamin Buttons" is moving along well here in New Orleans; the film stars Brad Pitt, and is the largest movie ever filmed in the state. Coming up in May, filming will start on a new Halle Berry movie, and in the next month, three feature-films filmed in New Orleans will be released, including "Pride," starring Bernie Mac.

Shreveport's getting most of the attention in the movie biz, but New Orleans is still rolling along faster than ever. There are more fim industry jobs being created here now than ever before, new sound stages and production facilities are planned or are under construction already, and of course there's the massive "Film Factory" super-facility, currently under construction in Treme.

We need you to keep pointing out the projects going on in New Orleans. Obviously in this region we're not hearing much from the film industry in that part of the state.

I think the reason Shreveport is getting so much press is because of the suddenness of it all. No one expected the industry to take off here, but it's exceeded all expectations and growing. That's excellent. But I do still like to keep up with what the rest of the state is doing, as this state is pushing itself as one entity, divided into regions, in luring more productions.

K-Ville is gonna be hot, I can tell I'm gonna have to get home in time to catch that show :shades: Another great idea for a New Orleans TV crime drama/movie is The Wire: New Orleans. It would chronicle New Orleans' drug industry, with filming done in the dangerous Uptown section. Guest appearances would feature B.G & his Chopper City crew, C-Murder, Juvenile, Fiend, etc. To give the film a gritty feel, St.Charles Avenue would be turned into a battlefield as rival crews battle to move weight on St.Charles Ave. The reason is that St.Charles Ave would be where many of them realize they could make the most money with their product. I'm actually thinking about submitting this idea to the appropriate parties :shades:

Louisiana Rank 3rd for Film Production in U.S.

Behind only California and New York

http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/L/LA_...EMPLATE=DEFAULT

Well then, according to THIS, Louisiana as a whole is the "Hollywood of the South." :) So that whole "Hollywood of the South" thread on the USA South forum can just end once and for all! :D

:tough: :tough:
