Two Tennessee sites in running for Toyota Plant

Gov. Bredesen has announced that two Tennessee mega-sites have made it onto Toyota's relatively short list of potential sites for their next assembly plant, one in West Tennessee (Crockett County - just miles northwest of Jackson, TN) and another in East Tennessee (Chattanooga). Both are great locations for the new plant and thus boost the odds that Tennessee might be able to land the plant over other states. The Governor spoke of Tennessee's good track record of attracting high profile manufacturing and corporate headquarters to the state, and that the state has been trying to lure Toyota's next manufacturing plant to Tennessee.

Governor Bredesen also mentioned that Toyota is also looking at building another engine plant in US soon as well, which Tennessee I am assuming will/is also going to try to land.

If either site lures the plant, the state will stand to make tremendous economic gains, so I'm hopeful that either site may in the end be Toyota's choice.

I have created two other threads where this development can be discussed:

West Tennessee's Site:

East Tennessee's Site:

Of course we can discuss and compare both sites here if anyone wishes to do so in this thread as well.

We'll take the assembly plant here in Chattanooga and that engine plant needs to go in West Tennessee. What a coup that would be!

Jackson already has an engine plant from Toyota during the round that awarded the pickup plant to San Antonio.

^ I'd take a second one in West Tennessee if we can't have the assembly plant. :D The Toyota-Bodine engine plant has been a great addition to Jackson's (and West TN's) economy, so a second one would be nice if we are runners up to Chattanooga.

I can see a slogan now though if we landed a second Toyota engine plant: "West Tennessee -Engine Producer for the World" Kind of catchy. ;):)

I'm will be happy as long as one or both land in Tennessee somewhere, be it in East or West TN, although we all know which division I would like the assembly plant in - which is only natural. If East TN lands it though, you'll still see me cheering as if a local.

How about, "Jackson, Tennessee, the Engine of the South"?
