No, the massing will be largely the same but the stacked box look will be simplified and the new design will be more practical to accommodate mechanicals on the rooftop and a more premium level of apartments on the highest floors including larger ceilings and balconies. Still will be one of the most interesting looking buildings to be built out soon.

is there a rendering of that newest version floating around we can see?

Here is the RUS Bus tower site before construction begins.  When are those buildings coming down and construction starting?  this will be great to have a high rise in that area as the Dillon stands by itself in that area.    (and the Dillon is one of my favorite projects in Raleigh)

GoTriangle will enter into a Joint Development Agreement with RB Vertical LLC, a special-purpose entity owned and controlled by Hoffman & Associates. This is the last step before permitting can be submitted for construction. Pending any unforeseen issues, construction will start Spring 2022!

 

This will be Raleigh's second tallest building, 1st tallest by roof height.

I drove by the site today and it looks like utility work for the site has started.  The project has a 2022 projected start, so hopefully we will see demolish work started soon.

Love the red brick. One thing I keep thinking about is that the main tower here will stick out a lot in its current location, away from most of the tallest high-rises in Raleigh. But I don't think that's a bad thing, if anything I'm hoping it will encourage more high-rise development in between those two areas to sort of connect them over time. Perhaps we will one day consider something like Nash Square to be the central heart of the urban core, instead of Fayetteville St. 

This would also connect all the development in Glenwood South to the "center" of the city a little more. Right now they are also somewhat distanced. Would help walkability!

Construction is starting 

GoTriangle leaders and development partners announced Monday the start of construction for the Raleigh Union Station Bus Facility, to be called RUS Bus.

The future 500,000-square-foot, mixed-use development will be between West Street and Raleigh Union Station in downtown Raleigh’s Warehouse District.

The approximate $275 million project is expected to weave together a new bus facility with residential, hospitality and retail spaces in one central hub.

The plans call to build two high-rise buildings up to 40 stories tall, 18,000 square feet of retail space, 400-plus apartments and 200 hotel rooms.

The center of gravity downtown has certainly shifted. The emphasis on ground floor retail on this side of downtown has been the biggest factor IMO. Its a fairly stark contrast compared to Fayetteville Street's incongruous situation.
