Replacement options of Bonner Bridge on the OBX?

Has anyone heard of any new replacement options for the Bonner Bridge between Pea Island and parts northward on the Outer Banks?

I've heard everything from a causeway bypassing the National Wildlife refuge to just a rebuilt Bonner Bridge.

any thoungs?

Like you, I heard that primarily due to the one-two punch of environmental impact studies and tight money, the

bridge will simply be rebuilt. As you well know, there has always been substantial opposition to the bridge.

Here is a Link I found. It states that NCDOT has eliminated 2 of the 4 proposed corridors. Constructions is proposed to begin in late 2006 with a completion in 2010.

I don't know how new or old this information is.

There are a lot more important proposed projects in this state (ie the Charlotte Loop) than a light traveled seasonal bridge.
